We have had our Narwal for about a month now and all I can say is WOW!!! I am blown away by three things. 1. The way the roller brush captures animal hair is mind blowing. We have an Irish Wolfhound that leaves hair throughout the house. Since we started using this, there is barely anything on the ground (daily cleaning) and have yet to have a brush tangle. 2. The mop function is incredible. This vacuum/map does such an amazing job on our floors. Every morning we wake up to spotless floors. 3. This thing is quiet. I actually like the fact that there is no dust bin capture in the base. It's so quick an easy to empty that it's really not an issue. You can barely hear the thing while it's cleaning the house. Truly impressed. The loudest part is when it cleans the mops, but even then it's not that loud. Setup was fairly easy, but as others have mentioned, connecting to your Wifi for the first time can be a challenge. It found my Wifi, I entered the password, but it wouldn't finish the setup. I just ended up force closing the app and opened it back up, started the process again and it went through. Mapping the house was fairly easy, but I did notice a few errors it made and had to remap a few times. Not a big deal as it's a very fast process. I ended up putting down fake cardboard walls to help it separate certain rooms (rather than making it one giant room). Seemed to fix the problem. I also had to cover a few mirrors in the house as it though there was a secret portal into another dimension! LOL The app for the most part is intuitive and easy to use. Mapping a second floor is a PITA, and it does not work the same as it does for the first floor. You can only select an entire area rather than an individual room. Also, I can't figure out how to tell it to mop on the second floor as it needs it's base. Luckily for us we have mostly carpet on the second floor. Customer support is non existent so don't get your hopes up. I have emailed there team a few times and still no response. I have also tried the Reddit Forum and you get a response, but they tell you to email their CSR team and you fall into a never ending cycle of 'NO SUPPORT'. All of my issues have to do with the APP and not about the machine itself... just an FYI. Repair support may be faster. As for the machine and base itself. It's a premium robot vacuum and it is hands down the nicest looking of the bunch. We also got the auto water exchange system and it works like a dream. If you can plumb it in, make the purchase. I bought my Narwal on sale for Mother's Day 2024 using a Roomba 980 for almost five years. This is the best cleaning investment I've made and waited till now to review to ensure I was completely satisfied with the cleaning results. Also, no more banging into furniture or walls with the millimeter precision of the Freo X Ultra. It vacuums and mops above my cleaning standards. As a retired member of the military my standards are very high! The Narwal Freo X Ultra robot cleans on par with the Roombas vacuum power but at a much lower noise level. The Freo vacuum can run at 4 different power levels, Quiet, Normal, Strong and Super Powerful with the ability to clean the area 1 to 3 times in a single session. Even on the Super Powerful mode of vacuuming it's less than half the noise of the Roomba 980 with the same level cleaning. I can't tell you how many times I had to pause Roomba to talk on the phone or to have a conversation. The Freo is so much quieter you'll wonder if it's even running. I know, I've looked for it several times only to find it cleaning normally. Let's talk about the climbing mode for a minute. My Freo is used on the downstairs only. So I have enabled the climbing mode to get over obstacles, rug corners, etc. This thing has climbed over a bathroom scale to get to the area behind the scale. Was impressed but now I just pick up the scale to make it easier to clean. The mopping features are just as impressive. With the edge clean mode engaged it will mop to the baseboards with the ability to do multiple cleaning passes. The rotating scrubbing heads clean my floors and leave no trace of dirt or streaking on my tile flooring. The robot will return to the base station periodically to wash the mop heads before continuing the cleaning job. There is no dripping of water from the mop heads. Was worried about running out of the mopping solution so I bought an extra bottle. I'm still on my first bottle of cleaner after two months. This is the only recommendation I can make. Once you run the mopping cycle it's not necessary to empty the dirty water or refill the clean water but do it anyway. The dirty water will get smelly after a week or so but you can't smell it till you pour it out. Overall I'm very pleased with the performance and rate it 5 stars, would go higher if Amazon allowed. The App is very intuitive and easy to use and have had zero issues getting it to work. Just a quick note on the authorized replacement parts. While I haven't needed any replacement parts the authorized replacement parts are a bit more costly than the knockoffs, I highly recommend only using authorized parts when needed. The knockoffs are not usually in the correct tolerances and don't work well. It's a get what you pay for type of thing. If you are still on the fence, buy it when a sale is available and save some money too. I know It's a bit more costly than some of the other models in the robot market but it's so worth it and makes it easy to maintain my floors. I have been using this for last few months. Pros: Easy to use & it clean the flooor throughly. Satisfied with the overall performance of the product. Cons: It doesn't work well in a multi-floor building. Though there is an option to save multiple maps, if you move the location of the base station from one floor to another floor it require remapping. I have had experience with robotic vacuum cleaners and mops for years. This attractive and well designed product is the best one I’ve owned and it works perfectly. Narwal will doubtless be sending out OTA updates to make it even better. The thing is, it is really hard for me to find any fault with this product that is an improvement over its predecessor. With it able to work perfectly in fully automatic A.I. Freo Mind mode, it makes use of numerous sensors to detect and correctly react to dirt or spills in the most appropriate manner. If you want to make use of various settings yourself to modify the system, you will find the app provides you with vast control. Point is, the mopping pads are able to adjust pressure on the floor depending upon the surface. A little less downward pressure on your wooden floors versus your tiles. Those pads are kept clean and wet with prompt and effective washing with clean fresh water in the handsomely designed base. Detergent that is child and pet safe is automatically added to the water. When the cleaning job completes they are washed and dried with heated air. The washing tray is easy to remove and clean yourself as you should do every couple of weeks or so. The system is designed for maximizing cleaning performance, with no fiddly easy to fail mechanical washing methods. I also am so very pleased that with this powerful capable vacuum and mop to find out that it is amazingly quiet. A very large dustbin is made more efficient by the compression of the contained contents and disinfected and air drying to prevent any moisture from leading to bacterial growth and smells. The solution is in sync with the ability to handle potentially a longer, dump with a possible 7 weeks needed before tossing the expanding disposal filter bags/cartridges or you can use the included 1 litre more conventional dustbin with a washable filter. I have only used the newer disposal bins thus far and I am very happy to say they work as advertised. If you’re someone who has a few kids and several pets, you may have more frequently emptying and the easiest to empty conventional dust bin may be the way you end up going. Take note though that you are able to buy third parties filters and parts that are very cost effective. The Narwal Freo is a great machine that has been a success around the world, so no shortage of consumables are available for your long term enjoyment of this machine. It is an easy to setup product that you can trust to make your home as clean as possible and even do this while the family sleeps as it is so quiet and doesn’t have a super loud dirt handling solution that is subject to possibly clogging up with potentially damp dirt and dust. On so many levels, this mopping vacuum is a step above. I am very glad that I took the plunge and went with Narwal who have gone above and beyond in designing a super capable and easy to live with device to make your home better. Highly recommended. The Narwal Ultra X Combo is a standout product in the world of robotic vacuums and mops. It merges both functionalities into a single, well-designed unit. Assembly and Usability Setting up the Narwal Ultra X was a breeze. The water tanks and filters are conveniently accessible and simple to replace, a significant improvement over many other models on the market. As someone who has struggled with the poor battery life of an older iRobot model, I found the Narwal Ultra X to be a game-changer. Its unique features and reliable performance place it in a league of its own. App Experience The initial app syncing and connection process was a bit cumbersome. The app could be clearer about the sequence of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections, which took longer than expected. Once set up, however, the app’s clean design was pleasing. One improvement I’d suggest is allowing the app to use the system's default font size and adhere to the light/dark mode settings. Additionally, adding a security feature such as Face ID to lock the app would provide peace of mind. I’m uncomfortable with any device accessing my home router without adequate security controls. Performance and Features The Narwal Ultra X’s performance is where it truly shines. After mapping my house, which features hardwood flooring and several area rugs, I tested it with both vacuuming and mopping. The vacuum noise level is comparable to my old iRobot, but the Narwal Ultra X boasts much higher suction power. It handled long hairs on the floor effortlessly, a particularly impressive feature. This was my first experience with a robot mop, and I was amazed by its cleaning power. It performed on par with the steam mop I typically use, significantly reducing the amount of manual labor required. The floor detergent that comes with it has a refreshing lemon scent, adding to the overall cleaning experience. Innovation and Daily Use Combining a vacuum and mop in a single unit is innovative, especially for someone like me who is new to such advanced robotic cleaning solutions. While robot vacuums are common and robot mops are available, the Narwal Ultra X’s integration of both functions in one device is impressive. Despite the slightly cumbersome product name, the Narwal Ultra X certainly nails it in terms of functionality and convenience. I plan to let the Narwal Ultra X automatically run daily to maintain my floors. After longer use, I may update this review to provide further insights into its performance and durability.
