This is an inexpensive and very reliable USB dual SD and microSD card reader. I use it for saving images and videos from the SD card in my camera and from the microSD card in my tablet. [Vorbemerkung: Ich habe zu Testzwecken ein kostenfreies Exemplar vom Hersteller erhalten. Dieser Umstand beeinflusst nicht meine Bewertung.] Nachdem ich mich einige Jahre mit einem sehr viel größeren Gerät herumgeschlagen hatte, dass wegen des störrischen Kabels eine aufdringliche Erscheinung abgibt, ist dieser Kartenleser eine Wohltat. Er kann nur zwei Kartentypen lesen. Es sind aber jene beiden Typen, die ich als einziges verwende. Ich kann beide Leseschächte gleichzeitig verwenden und kann diesen Kartenleser nun in einem Nebenfach meiner Notebooktasche transportieren. Zur Geschwindigkeit kann ich wenig sagen. Ich erwarte nicht mehr, als dass ein HD-Film unterbrechungsfrei wiedergegeben wird. Dies ist der Fall. Mein wichtigster Punkt aber ist das Design: Es passt sich besonders gut an ein Apple-Environment an, da es formal unscheinbar daherkommt, ich endlich von blinkenden Kontrollleuchten verschont bin und der Grauton recht nah an Apples Spacegrey heranreicht. Zur Verwendung mit den aktuellen Geräten freilich ist mittlerweile ein Adapter nötig. Es ist auch eine USB-C-Variante erhältlich, die ich wegen der geringeren Flexibilität lieber meide. Read more

I depend on this one drive. It provides a fast way to write and access micro SD cards. While this seems to not be relevant, if you need to boot many different versions of Linux quickly, this is handy. The operating systems see it as a USB device, and provide that interface to content written on a SD or Micro SD drive. I was able to write on Windows and boot on Chromebook a dozen different operating systems. I tested using UEFI and Legacy boot, both with no issue. It is convenient and reliable. As an aside, I use it as a quick way to read MicroSD cards from my drone. This is easier than remembering to bring my laptop that has a card reader built in. Also, it is small, no bigger than a USB drive, so it is at least as useful as a USB drive, the same size and additional functionality if you work with solid state memory cards. Read more

My existing "PNY" high performance SD card reader has been on the blink lately, so I was looking for a simple, compact SD card reader to transfer images from my Canon DSLR. The Starware SD card reader is perfect for my needs as 99% of the time I use SD or microSD cards with the remaining 1% being USB sticks, so no need for additional card slots. This device is the emodiment of plug and play. When you plug this device into the computer/laptop without an SD card, your computer will not recognise it. This confirms that the device doesn't require any software or drivers to run. When I placed an SD card in the reader, the file browser window opens immediately and you receive that typical Windows "device connected" sound. No further prompt for software or driver. I tested the unit using a "SanDisk Extreme PRO 32 GB SDHC Memory Card" which I use with my camera. I needed to import a bunch of photos over and as I'm weary of new devices handling memory cards (e.g. corruption) I opted to copy the images over first using my existing SD card reader followed by the Starware SD card reader. I also used this opportunity to measure the transfer rate. Please see picture attached. Existing reader ~40 MB/s Starware reader ~84MB/s The transfer rates are stable and I'm very happy with the transfer speed improvement. My SD card maxes out at 95MB/s so a transfer rate of around 84MB/s is perfectly fine for me. Files were transferred successfully with the corruption either. Would recommend. Read more
