This case is amazing! I was originally just seeking a keyboard for my work iPad, and much to my surprise I found this awesome hybrid case. Installing the case was a breeze. Pairing it with the iPad was simple, and I haven't experienced any connectivity issues yet. It fits snug and doubles the thickness of the iPad when closed, essentially converting it into a laptop. It adds a little bit of heft and feels very durable. Weighs the same as your standard laptop of a similar size. The iPad itself swivels left and right and locks into place when centered in its original position. The back-lit keys of the keyboard have 3 brightness settings, are very easy to toggle on/off, and offer a variety of color combinations. They look great and function well in the dark. I really like the inclusion of a mousepad on the keyboard. So far it works and tracks efficiently. Sadly it does not light up, but that definitely doesn't take away from its usefulness. Bought this 2 months again and was working perfectly. All of a sudden the keys are broken. The keys aren’t aligned to what I’m pressing at all. The number is is = and 3 is 4. I have something similar to this for my iPad Mini 6 and this is better; slimmer, less stiff, MUCH better keyboard, and less than 1/2 the cost. Very nice design overall and not too heavy. I was most impressed with the keyboard. Very responsive and with quality keys. The only small negative would be the lights behind these keys are not very even and some can be dim to read when the room is also dim. The swivel feature of the iPad/monitor is good—maybe a little loose for some, but I like it. There are two thumb wheels that are provided to secure your iPad into the case instead of a magnetic or raised pockets for the iPad, but this is a subtle/good design; just don’t adjust them too far inward because they could lift the corners of a glass screen protector. I did a ton of online research before buying this, considering everything from the Magic Keyboard to simple folios for my iPad Air 4. I paid somewhere around $50 for this product in June 2021. I’ve had this product a few weeks now, maybe a month. So far, it has performed very well. (Update: Oct 2024 - continues to perform very well.) Packaging was good. I’d report the battery life as “OK”. I use the keyboard somewhat infrequently. While the write-up claims “months” of battery life without the keys being illuminated, that has not been my experience. In maybe four weeks of infrequent use, I’ve had to charge the battery twice. I have not manually turned off the keyboard, and this might be the cause of the short life, but I feel it is worth mentioning. I would fully expect the keyboard to last one if not several days of full-time use without recharging, but i have not tested this. (Update: battery life is less of an issue. My use of the iPad is irregular: for occasional meetings, watching programs, journaling and so forth. I recharge the keyboard rarely and it doesn’t cause any issues. I notice no degradation in battery life over the 3+ years I’ve owned this) The keyboard is excellent, except for the occasional dropped/doubled letter. This is mildly annoying, but may be as much a function of the tighter hand position as any key irregularity. I’m not accustomed to typing on a device this small. The typing is quiet - I would have no problem using this keyboard in a meeting, classroom, or even courtroom (though I’m not sure I could recommend this for court recorders, who need extremely reliable key function.) Turning on/off the touchpad is easy, and when I find the touchpad gets in the way I just hit Fn-T and it’s off. The arrows at the bottom right are a godsend, especially when the touchpad is turned off. The touchpad allows you to tap (touch the pad without pressing) or “Click” (pressing down on the touchpad) - this is great. The keyboard comes with a row of utility keys at the top, but they are unfortunately not “Function (F1-F12)” keys. They include the home/square key, screen/iPad brightness, onscreen keyboard, search, rew/pause/ff, mute/vol-/vol+, lock, pair, and keyboard on/off. (Update: over the years I don’t remember encountering doubled letters and such anymore. The function keys I describe above work well.) The keyboard is 10” / 25.4cm wide, 7-5/8” / 19.4cm deep, and 11/16” / 17.4mm thick. Together with the iPad it weighs 2-1/2 lb, 1.126kg. I’ve not found the weight to be a problem. (Update: I’ve not found the small-ish size to be a problem either. I type normally. I find the quiet key operation is a big plus in meetings, or even sitting quietly in a room with my family.) The rotating flip hinge that holds the iPad housing has been flawless. I’ve used every configuration shown on the page: closed flat, open flat to read or browse a large website like Reddit, “tented” to watch YouTube videos, “draw” to watch videos while reclining, and “laptop” for uses like typing an Amazon review. No problem staying open at a very steep 30 degree angle (“draw” mode”) and the whole shebang stays balanced at 135 degrees (on a desk typing, with the screen pushed back pretty far - which might work well if the keyboard is in your lap.) Note: 135 works well on the desktop. It’s tippy in your lap. The keyboard assembly holds the iPad through a pair of cam wheels at the bottom. So far, no problems with retaining the iPad. You will not be able to use any type of iPad protector like an Otter case while having the iPad mounted “in” the system, but the keyboard itself is connected via BlueTooth and should work fine even if the iPad isn’t mounted. (Update: after three years, the iPad holding portion developed a 2-3” (5-7cm) crack. The left edge retaining plastic cracked right by the “on/off” button. Fixed it in five minutes with some KrazyGlue. Good as new. I’m not “rough” with electronics but I’m pleasantly surprised how well this plastic case has held up over time.) The keyboard uses USB-C to charge, saving me from using multiple chargers for iPad and keyboard. I haven’t timed how long it takes to charge. Less than an hour. I don’t have an Apple Pencil so I can’t comment on it directly. There is a 6-1/2” open space at the top of the iPad retainer that should serve to charge a pencil while the iPad is mounted in the device, and a loop on the left side of the keyboard that should(?) hold the pencil when the system is closed. I have not interacted with customer support. Overall, 9/10 and I would buy it again if lost, and would recommend it for others with a 2021 iPad Air (4th gen). (Update: I’ve taken to using the iPad / keyboard with a battery “brick” and a 12” / 30cm usb-C cable to keep it charged. This works great. I bought a laptop carrying case so I can keep the battery, cables, cleaning cloth and so forth with the iPad: the Inateck tablet case sleeve. This has also served well but I’d buy the next larger size next time. It wasn’t built to hold the iPad plus a keyboard/clamshell and it always feels like I’m cramming it in there. It is fantastic for travel and lets me keep my electronics together in my backpack, which is especially convenient for air travel.) I think I’d upgrade my score to 10/10. The only feature I’m not completely in love with is the trackpad, which palm-rejects poorly. I keep it off and use the touch screen. I like that so much that when I’m using a MacBook, I reach up to touch the screen before I realize what I’m doing. For my next iPad (eventually I’ll upgrade to a larger screen for watching nfl.com) I’ll probably try the Pencil and will likely try a small bluetooth mouse. But for now, this keyboard is fantastic and I recommend it with even more enthusiasm than I did three years ago. In case of iPad upgrade (of if this one did fail at some point), I would definitely buy this keyboard again — immediately. Read more
