I have the first-gen 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4G and really like it, mainly because the rear paddles can be programmed to run macros in games. The best part is that macros and profiles are saved directly to the controller, so there’s no need to run any background software while playing. That said, only two paddles can be programmed, and the macro setup process isn’t very intuitive. The new Ultimate 2 improves on this by adding two extra buttons next to the L and R bumpers, giving you four programmable buttons for macros. The programming software has also seen a big upgrade, making it much easier to create and manage profiles and macros than with the first gen. As for the controller itself, it now uses a new "TMR" joystick, but to be honest, I don’t notice much of a difference from the previous gen’s hall-effect sticks—both feel pretty much the same during gameplay. The build quality is solid, and while the addition of RGB fire rings is a nice touch, I usually just keep the lights off. One downside is that the back paddles can be triggered a bit too easily, even when just picking up the controller from its dock. Overall, it’s a well-built controller packed with features, and I haven’t found anything else this capable at a similar price point. Read more
