I’ve had the previous Qarbo for several years and loved it…I take it everywhere…on vacation and trips, parties. It was conveniently small-ish, and even though it was a little tall to fit under the cabinets, I could turn it sideways and get it to fit. The problem is that our cabinets have a standard 18” clearance between the countertop and the cabinets, but we also have a decorative trim piece and under-cabinet lighting. The previous Qarbo would fit, the new one does not because it is significantly taller. And we don’t have any place in our kitchen where there are not cabinets over the countertop, unless I stick it in the middle of the island, which doesn’t work for us. The one issue I had with the previous Qarbo was that the flasks were too tall to fit anywhere in our refrigerator. When my husband accidentally washed one of the flasks in the dishwasher and melted it, I took the opportunity to upgrade to the new version because it had shorter flasks—a much better design, or so it seemed. However, the new Qarbo is TALLER than the previous, and the top part that hinges and can be moved a little on the previous one is replaced with a much heftier aluminum housing that cannot move. This absolutely will not fit under our cabinets. The second issue is the little part that sticks into the bottle to inject CO2 is EXTREMELY difficult to get pushed into the smaller bottle because there’s not enough clearance…you have to kind of push the bottle in at an angle, then force the bottle into position. The other version, with the hinged top, was extremely easy to position and inject. I’m debating about whether to return this or not…I was able to get replacement flasks, but I already threw the box away. I do not like it at all. I’ll give 2 stars because the aluminum housing is nicer, but deduct three stars for the obvious oversight on the height. I used to be a kitchen designer, and cabinets are supposed to be a minimum of 18”, but Qarbo should have consulted with kitchen designers to determine that the height of this unit doesn’t work for any kitchen with any trim or lights under the cabinets. My suggestion to Qarbo is to keep the older design, but make an adapter for the bottles so it can use shorter bottles like the new version has. I love soda. Unfortunately, it is horrible for you. Carbonation machines like the Twenty39 allow you to make a healthier "soda" product. You can carbonate any liquid that you like. The carbonation gives you that mouth feel of a real soda. How healthy of a product you make is up to you. You can use the soda drops that are available almost everywhere to create flavored drinks that have no calories, but the ingredients of these drops can be questionable. I prefer to use fresh fruit to flavor my drinks as it is a healthier option. This is where the Twenty39 really shines. The mouth of the bottle is designed larger than any of its competitors to allow you easily add cut fruit to your carbonated beverage for flavor. This creates a naturally flavored carbonated drink that has no harmful ingredients. This large mouth also is super useful in allowing you to get at the fruit and eat it as you get to the bottom of your drink. Even more useful is allowing access to clean the bottle when done. The Twenty39 even comes with a silicone scrub brush to help you clean your bottle out and get it ready for the next tasty batch of carbonated drink you will create. I absolutely love this machine for all of this. However (there is always a but), there are a few short comings about the Twenty39 that I must mention. Probably the greatest negative is that the Twenty39 doesn't include a cap for the bottle. You have to use the CO2 injector unit to keep the bottle sealed. This is a big let down as I like to take my bottled carbonated drink with me. While the CO2 injector top keeps the bottle sealed, I don't really like having to worry about damaging it while carrying my bottle around. I really don't understand why a cap for the bottle wasn't included. The other issue I have with the Twenty39 is that the way you put a CO2 cartridge into the unit isn't as easy as there carbonators I have owned. The top of the unit has to be pulled up and off to access the CO2 cartridge. Other units I have owned allow access from the back to screw in the cartridge. While not a huge deal, it is not as convenient as other units. Overall, I really like the Twenty39. It has become my primary carbonator. This is mostly due to the fact that it is so easy to use fresh fruit with this unit over others. I recommend it solely for this feature. Read more
