Being a fan of all things scary and spooky, this whistle was perfect for Halloween. The sound of the whistle when you blow through it is scary and definitely has a blood curdling sound. Outside of Halloween, this whistle makes a great decoration and conversation piece. They include a bag to keep it in but I have it out to both show it off and use it. The construction is clay pottery type and not plastic. The whistle has some weight to it but not too heavy for sure and the painted finish is nice, clean and uniform. It was so much fun scaring people as they came to the house for trick or treats. My little dog is terrified of it so I have to be aware of that as I don’t want to give him additional anxiety but the whistle is great fun for sure. Read more

As far as a death whistle goes, this whistle isn't really much of one. It comes in a very nice box, comes with a bag to help keep it safe, and looks impressive. However the sound is really lacking. I have to blow very hard to get it anywhere near loud sounding, and it makes more of a discordant whistle, rather than sounding like a scream. This sounds more like a spots whistle with laryngitis. I had been eyeing this for more than a year. Our (adult) son, who dabbles in music and recording, really wanted for Christmas last year. At that time, I couldn’t find the one he wanted – this one. When I got the opportunity to get it this year, I jumped. First, this whistle seems to be very high-quality. It is much heavier than I anticipated it would be. I guess if I have thought about it, knowing it is ceramic, I probably could’ve guessed the weight. It is relatively thick ceramic, so I still think it probably weighs more than you’re going to expect – think heavy flowerpot wait. It comes in an attractive box with a small bag to store the whistle in. I wasn’t terribly impressed with the packaging. The mouthpiece was pointed down in the delivery box in a piece of foam. The edge of the mouthpiece was against the cardboard. I looked carefully to make sure there were no cracks in it, and there weren’t, but this is essentially the only negative I can find . The body of the whistle was very well packed. There really isn’t a great way to describe the tone that this whistle makes. Playing around with it, you can make it create different tones. It is someplace between an eerie funeral wail and what ghosts seem to sound like in movies. I’ve been in some windstorms that created similar sounds, but this whistle creates what I would describe as a “more hollow” sound the wind does. It is pretty loud. I can’t vouch for 125+ decibels. That would be someplace between a jackhammer and a jet engine. If I could make it that loud, it would only be for a brief second or two. Sustained, I would say this is as loud as a fire alarm going off at work - for as long as you have the breath to sustain it (fun fact – my son can circular breathe, so he can keep this going for quite a long time. My son is pretty excited to use this in his recording. He’s already played around with it, and found some creative ways to use it. I can’t say that I really understand the electronic mixing that he does, but he is able to really draw sounds out of this in a creative way . If you’re looking for something spooky for Halloween, or something entertaining to use in music or film, recording, I would suggest this would be a good addition.
