No complaints about this CPU. To be fair, I jumped several generations and the improvement was crystal clear. I use it mainly for work, where I need raw power, and it does not disappoint me. It also keeps up for the gaming part, despite the not so kind reviews. Extremely fast and quite easy to tame, even with (actually beefy) air coolers. It sits just above 30 degrees at idle and hovers just around 80 at full load, even for sessions lasting tens of minutes at 100%. I would recommend it, although not too warmly, given the recent news about a socket review coming soon on the Intel side. Let's say it's a great CPU if you intend to use it for the next 4 or 5 years, and then change it together with the mobo. If instead you prefer to buy a mobo and run multiple CPUs on it in a few years, look at AMD. Read more

My latest build June 18, 2025 was an all blackout no ARGB workstation to run SolidWorks: Intel Core Ultra 9 285k, MSI MAG Tomahawk Z890E wifi motherboard, G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5 64GB 6000 MT/S, Samsung 990 Pro SSD 1TB M.2, Thermaltake Toughpower GF A3 1050 watts power supply, upHere 8x6mm heat pipes direct contact 280Watt TDP CPU air cooler, Corsair 4000 RS Frame case, Corsair RS 120mm case fan, and PNY Nvidia RTX 2000 ADA 16GB GPU. The first thing I did was to update the BIOS on the mobo. With nothing(no RAM no CPU) on the mobo I inserted a 32GB USB flash drive with the latest BIOS file on it into the BIOS flash USB port, connected the power supply 8-pin and 24-pin cables to the mobo, turned on the power supply and press the BIOS flash button on the mobo, and in about five minutes the BIOS update was done (the LED light went out). Assembled all the parts into the case. I applied a very thin and even layer of thermal paste to both the CPU and the CPU cooler. For air flow I did three 120mm fans intake in the front and one 120mm fan at the rear. This fans arrangement forces cool air to flow across the entire motherboard which cools the RAM, VRM, help CPU air cooler intake and the GPU. I ran Cinebench 2024 and Core Temp for a10-minutes multicore stress test. With all 24 cores running at 100% the temperature range for all cores varied from 73 to 78 with every now and then a couple of cores spiked to 82 on for a few seconds then came back down under 80 degrees. The 285k drew around 205watts during the stress test. Even all six fans (four on the case, two on air cooler) rammed up to 100% the whole system was not noisy at all. I let the system burnt in for 24 hours and not a single hiccup. The CPU was very stable, the temperature was low and the system was very quiet. The Nvidia RTX 2000 ADA 16GB GPU is not for gaming and this system was not intended for gaming but for work station doing CAD type program specifically SolidWorks. I did a similar system back in January this year with the same CPU and mobo and I must say I was and I am impressed by the performance, reliability and stability of the Intel Core Ultra 285K and MSI MAG Tomahawk motherboard. Final thought: In day to day real life working with SolidWorks the 24 cores of the CPU will hardly reach 100% capacity. This is an over-built quiet system with a lot of horsepower to spare and most importantly a stable system for professional work. Read more

Great CPU when using the latest mobo bios, however the latest Intel 200S BOOST update thing is a useless gimmick. On the Asus Proart board, the XMS tweaked profile gives far better speeds and lowers the ram latency by 17ns which doesnt OC the CPU at all. Read more

Upgraded from an i7 Ultra to this i9 Ultra, and what a nice surprise. While many reviews focus on how fast rendering goes with this chip (which I can understand) and other CPU-intensive tasks it compiles, my choice to upgrade was to experience for myself an i9 machine. I am a writer by profession and can see the difference in how fast items I need load, and they load quickly with almost zero lag. It is just a great experience to drive Intel's best finally. I recently purchased it. The product has significant issues that have rendered it unusable for my professional needs: The processor exhibits shadows that appear to be damaged clusters. Even when working solely with RAM, the processor cannot efficiently run structural design programs like AutoCAD. The performance is extremely slow, significantly hindering my productivity. The reviews on this CPU are so biased, its actually really frustrating. It is definitely a disappointment for gaming as of November 26, 2024. But anyone into productivity, content creation, photo editing, etc the cpu is incredible. I built a 9950x a few months ago because after the bios updates with the 14900k, that cpu tanked in performance for what I use and needed it for and the 9950x was a great CPU while I was using that, but I built the 285k PC for what I literally do for a living and decided to keep this PC and sell the 9950x PC because it is far better, everything feels smoother, the asus z890 xmp profile with 4 sticks feels better & overall I have no idea why "GAMING" is the only thing seem to care about with the CPU and base there reviews off of that. AMD for this generation is better for gaming absolutely, but not everybody cares about getting 30 more fps when we are already getting over 200. I recommend this cpu & I havenet even updated the bios with the motherboard yet. Read more
