Maybe it's the absolute "best" guitar designed and produced by the folks who work at Fender/Squier. Slotted tuners (so string changes are fast and easy), HSS configuration -- a humbucker bridge pickup (so you can duplicate Les Paul P90 tones), and two single coils (so you can instantly switch to the "classic" Fender Strat tone), 24-inch scale (goldilocks zone -- fret spacing not too squished like the mini Strat, not too wide like all other standard 25.5" scale Fenders (with the exception of the Fender Jaguar which is BTW also 24-inch scale!)), and a lightweight body (don't let anyone fool you into thinking body size/weight impacts tone in any way that your on-board controls and/or amp can't control to your satisfaction). Having owned every Fender & Squier (and other "top" brands) guitar from Custom Shop to Sonic, no one can fool me with their psychobabble about how this one or that is somehow better or worse than another. The ultimate takeaway is that you want it light! There's nothing worse than hanging an 8-10lb piece of wood around your neck and shoulder which after 10-15 minutes becomes a drudge. This "Junior" guitar weighs in at just around 6lbs and that makes all the difference in the world in terms of your desire to keep playing it. After putting it through its paces for a week, there's NO tone it can't produce that my $3500 Custom Shop does. It sustains just as long but it's lighter and easier to fret. This axe puts everything into perspective. The whole point of buying a guitar is to make tones with it that accompany vocals or serve as an instrument either solo or part of an ensemble. It's wood and strings folks; not something you attach any fabricated emotional vision to despite all the marketing hype you're bombarded with. This Junior Strat is IMO a true "forever" guitar for beginners or accomplished gigging professionals. Read more
