1. do you prefer your earbuds to play the same audio at the same time? - then this product is not for you. the audio can frequently desync. hearing the same audio with at slightly different times in different ears is horrendous and maddening. 2. but do both buds work? no! the left ear bud occasionally phones it in and it completely stops working. you'll have to forget the device in your Bluetooth settings and pair it again. don't worry. your time isn't valuable. 3. does the audio on my phone stop when I put the buds away? No! When you put your ear buds back in their case after listening to audio, you should not expect your phone to stop playing said audio from it's own speakers.... even if you spend a fortune on a brand new pixel phone! I hope you weren't listening to metal right before volunteering with kids. because your phone's gonna keep playing it and everyone's going to hear it. 4. are they good to run with? No. not at all 5. does ai really make a difference? Yes. it's SO annoying. Gemini speaks up unprompted constantly. interrupts whatever you're doing, helps you miss turns you should have made while driving, interrupting your texting and phone use, all while stubbornly refusing to vacate your screen so you can use your phone 6. does it get caught in pairing loops? most definitely! Your phone will just play the pixel buds connection sound over and over and over again. I think it's an interaction effect with other Bluetooth devices, but clearly the android project is attempting to give the pixel buds some administrative control beyond that of a normal Bluetooth device; unlike Harald Bluetooth, who united the Danish, your pixel buds will only succeed in driving wedges between you and the people around you mad with repetitive sounds. 7. Who hurt you? You did google. The Bluetooth spec is absolutely insane. no one can implement it you have abhorrent code deep in your kernel and it's absolutely ruining your product. I think proprietary protocols are the most evil, and I desperately want to stay on a platform that plays the open source software game. In short, these earbuds are the most comfortable I've ever used, have long battery life, sound great, and transparency is amazing. Anc- not the best but it's okay, does not do well blocking those higher frequencies like the Sony wf xm5 do Connectivity - pairing was very easy as it uses Google fast pair, but I cannot rely on the multipoint and audio switch. It doesn't seem to work well and I often get connection drops with it on. Battery- very good. Last me about 7-8 hours. I start work at 3 and around 10 is when they usually need a quick top up for the remainder of the shift. Build- the earbuds and case seem to be well built and flagship level, the proximity sensor seems to be hidden as I can't easily spot it but still works well. The hazel color is not as black as I hoped, more of a gray. They are very comfortable and don't fall out like the xm5s do Overall I'd say they are a bit on the pricey side and if you can afford them, go for it. These are the most heavily bugged earbuds I've ever worn. Just today, I was listening to music, I tried to turn the volume and it wouldn't let me. It was saying that the volume was going down when I clicked the volume down button on my phone but nothing happened, I had to reset my earbuds and repair them to fix the issue. I had charging problems within the first 2 months, mainly for my left ear bud at first but a couple weeks later, occasionally the right one would not start charging the first time I put it in it's case so I have to take it out and try again until it starts charging which can be frustrated. Some things they did well was the charging speed, if you're earbuds are low on battery, they will charge very fast, probably the fastest out of all. The fit works and stays in better while I'm eating but still room for improvement. Don't even try to skip a song or rewind with wet/sweaty fingers, 80% of the time it will not register. If you're a loud music enjoyer such as myself, you're be disappointed when the audio starts cutting out when you put the volume up to the last few clicks, especially if the song is already loud (mainly rap with loud snares) it makes the audio deafened and completely loses the bass making it impossible to listen to high quality music at a high volume. If you're paying for premium earbuds, you shouldn't need to worry about having an audio limiter that prevents you from listening to music loud occasionally. If Google's equipment can't handle the output, then don't make it an option. It doesn't even matter if it's to protect the earbuds components, if you pay for all of the earbuds, you should be able to get every bit of high quality noise out of them you possibly can. It really makes Google look bad when their own design can't hold up to the point that it's technically designed to do. I would not buy these earbuds until Google can figure their mess out and fix most of the bugs because it's almost unbearable and very frustrating when you try to buy something of higher quality. I've been putting off buying new ear buds for a while, but my old Bose QuietControl 30 earbuds (bought in 2019 and until recently, worn every day since then) are showing their age and a lot of wear. After much deliberation I pulled the trigger on a set of Pixel Buds Pro 2, since I already own a Pixel 7 Pro, and I am NOT disappointed. Not only is the sound quality on par with (and in some cases like handling heavy bass, better) the Bose earbuds, the fit and comfort is better, and the lack of a neck yoke is amazing. On sound quality, at the default EQ setting the Pixel Buds produce clear, balanced audio with crisp highs, balanced midrange and punchy but not overwhelming bass. On the "Heavy Bass" EQ setting, they produce even punchier bass, without sacrificing the highs and mids (Unlike the QC30 which just lowered the volume of everything else on a hard bass hit to avoid distortion) The Pixel Buds also don't seem to show any signs of distortion even at uncomfortably high volumes. Call sound quality is also REALLY good. I can hear the other party clearly, and the ANC keeps outside noises out of both my ears and the outgoing call audio, which is also clear and easy to understand for the other party. The gestural controls on the buds were super easy to get used to (as opposed to the physical buttons on the QC30) and the automatic conversation mode seems to work pretty well, automatically pausing the music and turning on Transparency Mode when I start talking. They were super easy to pair with my Windows Desktop as well, and most all of the gestural controls are supported by Windows, though I wish they supported multipoint pairing so that I could use them with both my phone and computer simultaneously. The case for them is my only other gripe. Its rounded shape and silky smooth finish make it kind of hard to keep ahold of for me, and I'm sure I'm going to lose it or one of the earbuds at some point. Hopefully the Find My Device network holds up enough for me to recover them if that happens. All in all, I think that the price is a little high, but they are overall worth it. We'll see how the ANC and listening time holds up for them. And overall durability, though I won't be using them as much as I did the QC30, which I was wearing every day at work for 8-10 hours per day as I used to work in an industrial manufacturing facility and there was a large compressor and tools running all the time. This is my second set. The first gen actually stayed in my ear better, but the wing tips would sometimes tickle that part of my ear when in for awhile. These stay in great, unless I am working out at the gym such as facing down doing flys or some other exercise. I love the case. I have tested and researched all the other top brands and the pixel case is easily the best (by far). Comfortable, perfect size and easy operation. The buds are easy to put in the case for charging, etc. The noise cancelation is great. I am writing this from a very noisy coffee shop. Popped them in and long tap for noise cancelation. wow. The background music comes through and most of the chatter and crying babies are muted. I would love to see a firmware update to make it a little quieter though. The sound quality of music and voices is excellent. Bass is rich and sound is immersive. The voice calls are excellent. I hear callers clearly and they hear me without background voices or noise. I can work anywhere and do zoom calls from anywhere! These really are a life improvement for my lifestyle. Thanks google engineers and designers. After 2 years of experimenting with Apple, I decided it was time to go back to Android with the Pixel 9 Pro. While I tried using my Airpod Pro 2s with the Pixel, there was an audible a loss of quality, which I'm sure is related to the loss of Apple's Spatial Audio. I went with Apple's flagship TWS for their phone, so it only made sense to do the same with Google and the Pixel lineup. Firstly, build quality and fit. Despite being light, they're built pretty well. I'm not too concerned about any of the components breaking or cracking. Time will tell if the internals are as robust as the externals. It seems like YMMV with the fit. You kinda have to rotate the buds into your ear canal to get it to sit right. I had some issues at the start to get them to where they'll stay in, but once I figured it out, I was able to get a consistent fit. That being the case, I can easily see a situation where someone's ear shape could cause these to simply not work for them at all. Even with a halfway decent fit, the passive "seal" I get from the tips is lackluster. Controls are serviceable. Tapping to pause can get finnicky sometimes, but overall I would say that the earphones do what you tell them to do. Next, the features. 1) Multipoint BT is great. I switch often between my phone and my Galaxy Tab S8, and it's the most seamless transition I've ever experienced., better than Apple. Only drawback is that you're capped at 2 devices. If it was possible to bump it up to 3 so that I can could pair it with my desktop, that would've been perfect. That's not a dealbreaker for me since I have multiple headphones and speakers set up for desktop listening. 2) ANC is lacking. It does an "okay" job with background hums, but if you were hoping to use these to drown out moderately loud noise (i.e. pressure washer, loud HVAC, vacuum), this isn't the pair for you. I wouldn't trust these to do well on a plane. 3) On the flip side, transparency mode is class leading. It reproduces ambient sound and people talking with such accuracy that it's almost like having hearing aids. Transparency is more important than ANC for my use case, so this was a huge positive for me. Lastly, sound quality. After messing with the sound profiles and trying my best to work with the 5 band EQ, I was able to get it to a tuning that I liked. Bass extension is great, rivaling that of the Airpods. Highs are crisp enough for my tastes. Now we get to the downside. There seems to be an upper midrange scoop or veil that I haven't been able to EQ out. I tend to prefer slightly sparkly vocals so this was a bit of a disappointment. I suspect that if you're more into EDM or instrumental music, this type of tuning would work really well. Are these a good value for the money? I would say probably not, especially if you don't utilize all the features or don't want to mess with EQ settings. I paid ~$250, but I feel like the sound quality just isn't at that mark. It's only when you combine it with the other features and pairing it with a Pixel phone that it barely starts to make sense. I have had many different Jabra, Sony, Sennheiser earbuds, and my absolute favorite so far have been the Pixel Buds Pro (also I should say I have a Pixel phone). The sound quality of the PBP1's were excellent, and the fit was great, but it did slip out of my ear a bit if I was sweaty. The only complaints I had from the PBP1's is it took forever to connect to the phone when I took the buds out of the case and put them in my ears. More than 10 seconds in many cases. And I don't necessarily wear them all the time, but if my phone rings, in the past I would answer it by putting a bud in my ear with my old Jabras, and it would connect immediately and answer the call when I did that with them. But with the PBP1's many times I would either miss the call waiting on the buds to connect, or have to answer it by putting the phone to my ear and a few seconds later, the buds would connect and the call would switch over to them. If all earbuds were slow to connect, I would just say that's how it is and deal with it, but the jabras were so fast, it was frustrating that a much newer earbud was slower than an old earbud to connect. Anyway all that to say, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 earbuds that I just purchased do not have this issue!!! They connect very quickly, by the time my bud is in my ear it's connected. Or maybe 1 second after. It was worth the upgrade for that alone, IMO. The other nice upgrade is they are smaller and lighter, and more comfortable in my ears, and if I twist them they are much more secure than the old Pixel Buds Pro. I wanted to give this a shot. Pros - Good battery life. - Semi good white noise. - Comfortable. Cons - Bad sound quality. I'd say you can hear stuff but not ideal for a movie. - Price was super expensive. I feel like the quality I the material was fair but I sound could have been the biggest improvement. - The Ai is not really responsive I've noticed. I for example say " Hey Google" (insert what ever you u wanted to ask) and it would fail to respond when listening to music or watching a movie. The Iffy - Even though the buds fit and felt like they are staying in your ear it kinda needs like it doesn't wanna fall out but it feels tight enough. - The GPS was a cool feature. - If you want good sound, and noise canceling and actually stays in your ear the bose 2 is worth it. When are electronics companies going to realize that we hate touch controls when touch controls do not work? The way you "control" these headphones is to swipe up or forward to increase the volume. On an item that is 1 centimeter in diameter. Since the headphones themselves do not know where "up" or "forward" is, because orientation isn't standardized, swiping them is a guess at best, and seldom works. In fact, if you focus very intently on perfectly swiping to change volume, A MAJOR FUNCTION, it won't work 3/4 of the time. Sometimes it activate the assistant, sometimes it pauses, usually it does nothing. The other way to control these is to tap. This is a bad way to control something that is in your ear, as effectively this means if you want to change tracks, you should stab yourself in the ear drum. Also, doing so DOESN'T WORK most of the time. The ear seals are too flimsy, which means they turn themselves inside out when you take out the headphones. Way to go saving an 80th of a cent on the silicone there. All of this would be somewhat ok if these sounded amazing. They don't. They sound basically the same as a $40 pair of Beats or whatever generic trash you might find. Small soundstage, squashed distinction, boring bass, underpronounced highs. Google assistant doesn't work more than half the time. Also, you have to give a ton of permissions, and install an app for these to "function", something no one wants. You also are forced to update the google app, and sending you spam is auto selected, so be vigilant. Read more
