The candles are plastic with a smooth satin finish so they aren't shiny. They look surprisingly realistic. The white plastic flame sticks up on a black wick. It's only white when its not lit. When its lit, it glows a nice flame color. The operation of the candles is controlled by an IR remote control, but the candles have a switch on the bottom that has to be turned on for them to work. This physical switch ensures the candles are ready to go when you turn them on by not allowing the batteries to run down while in storage. The batteries are rechargeable using a USB-C charge cable which is a nice feature so you never have to worry about replacing batteries. The set comes with a base that the candles stand in so that all 10 candles can be charged at the same time using a single USB charger block and cable. The remote control turns the candles on and off and also controls the look of the flame. There is an intensity control to make the flame dim or bright in small increments. There are 4 modes that can be selected; slow flicker, fast flicker, dim-bright-dim cycle, always on. I preferred the slow flicker. I found it looked the most like a real candle flame. There is also a timer feature that allows you to set a 2hr, 4hr, 6hr, or 8hr time before the candle shuts off. This is a great feature to preserve the battery charge. I like the remote control. Great set of rechargeable candles. Not “realistic” wax like some other sets I’ve seen but perfect for my use - which was to put in candle holders on the windowsills. They give a nice warm flickering glow to all my windows without the fear of a fire. Love that you can set the timer and they come on everyday automatically. Easily recharged. I like non-burning candles and have a few sets, but I got tired of replacing the batteries when they became dim or stopped working. I lost interest as it became a chore to replace batteries. When I saw this set of ten, white, stick candles easily charged by just pushing them into a charging station I was super interested, what a great concept! After inspection, the candles are well-made and designed, uniform in color seven inches in height, and have an elegant look. All the candles have a USB C charge port and can be charged on the base or with a regular cable. They come with a slim 4"x 6" black charging station that holds the candles, and a USB-C charging cable. Before using the candles I charged them all on the base, I found that they needed to be pushed in firmly for them to connect. Each candle has a charge indicator that glows red while charging and looks great in the charger, the base also has a tiny charge light and illuminates green when they're done. Now it's so convenient to have the ten candles in a charging station without me doing anything, it could not be easier! After testing, the candles look great and are quite realistic resembling a true wax-burning candle. At first, I questioned if they had a good flicker but was pleasantly surprised. They also look great in a multiple-candle holder as a candelabra, I prefer the flickering flame 'SL Mode' or 'FL Mode. As for how long they will run, after charging the candles they ran over seven days straight on medium brightness, so I'm thrilled with the run time! The candles come with a remote for 'on/off', brightness higher/lower, four modes for slow flickering, fast flickering, flickering, light effect, and static light effect, and a Timer for 2/4/6/8 hours, very nice! It's so convenient using the timer just set it and forget it, with no candles to blow out. These are my favorite rechargeable candles, they are so convenient with the charging station and have a realistic flicker, they are the only way to go! The candles look amazing in my candle holders on the fireplace mantel, and the dining room table for a cozy dinner. They look great in the upstairs window giving more light to the staircase, they provide a beautiful relaxing mood to any room in the home!
