I bought this set to test it out before gifting one to my niece who is really into art. The convenience of just taking the lid off and painting immediately is unmatched , I would recommend it for anyone who has a young child that likes to paint just for that! However, it is MESSY. The paint has to be stirred and it will overflow into the neighboring cups when doing that. I’ve noticed some cups have more paint than others also, it’s the ones that are actually full that spill over and get everywhere. The colors are great, I think there’s just enough variety to make any color you want very quickly and easily. The paint quality is low for gouache but still good once you figure out which colors are less dense than others etc. overall, what you get for the money is great. I've been really enjoying this set! I wish there were more shades of green but I'm still massively impressed with the color shades and quality. The case is my favorite part! Setting the palette up was a little hard as many of the paint pods wouldn't peel easily, and that's hard for someone who has trouble with their hands. Otherwise it's well worth the purchase. I didn't notice any weird smells or anything other than your standard paint. They paint vibrantly and it's easy to control the viscosity with water. I really wanted to like this! I found, that even upon opening the containers of paint, there were large consistency differences. Many were already semi- dry. I did purchase the Himi Gouache spray as well, so once I applied liberally and gave it time, the paint still wasn’t great. I recommend that instead of purchasing a big student grade set like this, maybe purchase a set of primary colors and white from a slightly nicer grade brand and mix your own colors. Read more

This 48 set of gouache cups from HIMI is not the first time I've tried their products. However, I'm very impressed with the colour variety in this set. It is perfect for beginners and even includes a plastic mixing palette as well as three good-quality synthetic brushes. :) Some of the yellow and pastel colours in this set are less opaque and require additional layers but the darker colours are very opaque. Each cup needs to be peeled open but can be sealed with the rubber stopper lid that clips on top. Additionally, if these cups ever dry out, simply add water, wait overnight, and then mix them well to rehydrate as these are water-based. I think the only negative thing I can say about these gouache paints is that they are not lightfast. Please do not use these for professional works for sale unless you intend to scan them and then print them. Because these are not lightfast, art made with them will fade considerably when not stored properly. Overall, these are excellent practice gouache and even perfect for sketchbooks or for beginners looking for budget gouache as the colours are vibrant, they blend well, and the gouache itself is creamy and a good consistency. :) Read more

I have bought HIMI gouache many times. I really love their gouache & their colors. Their gouache is smooth & creamy & most colors are opaque. I like these twin pots because, for the most part, you get 2 different shades of the same color and they blend together very well. The pots can be a bit messy to open, so I wear gloves. Also, the rims of the pots overlap each other in the case, so you need to take multiples out at a time to open them. The pots aren't labeled once opened, but if you keep them in the order they came in, you can refer to the pre-filled swatch chart. Since gouache tends to dry out quickly, I keep them covered with a piece of plastic wrap when not in use, which helps a little. The lid has a layer of foam in the top to help seal the case, but it's not airtight. Comes with a large rectangular palette & 3 medium-quality brushes (flat, round, & filbert). Case has sturdy latches to keep it closed. I love the peach fuzz color of the case. Read more

I have had this set for over 6 months and have found it to be a great beginner set. It was a lot to open all the cups but found that once they were open all the color choices were highly pigmented and were very beautiful when on the page. I liked that there was a small sponge on the inside of the case that did keep the paints wet. However after not using the set for 3 weeks some of the paints did dry out mainly due to the half pan size. Over all I think this was a great set to start out and get used to the medium. Read more
