So far I am loving this laptop! I know I could've just attached a second monitor to a basic laptop for less money. But it is so convenient having the second monitor always there, and so easily accessible! The transition from one to two screens is flawless. I use it even more than I thought I would! I love it for gaming and also for productivity (spreadsheets, shopping, finances, etc.)! I don't know why all laptops don't come with two monitors! I've had it for about two months and used it almost daily. So far the keyboard, screens, sound, everything is perfect! Absolutely no real complaints. Only one minor comment - it does get a little hot when gaming or using for long periods while plugged in, but I am not surprised at that. I bought a Laptop Cooling Pad for about $30 and they work great together. Neither the laptop nor my lap are warm now, and the laptop is still exceptionally handy. Read more

I purchased the laptop on May 25, 2024. It was dispatched on June 20 and delivered the following day, June 21. The box arrived intact and well-packaged inside both the Asus box and the Amazon box. The computer is heavier than I anticipated, and it consumes battery very quickly, even with just one screen active. However, I find the dual-screen concept to be awesome; I love it. When deciding between the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i and the ZenBook Duo 2024, the ZenBook seemed the logical choice due to its stronger performance, greater storage capacity, better processor, and lower price. This laptop was so perfect for working remotely away from my main home office since you had two screen for multi-viewing while tasking. The screens are gorgeous, processor snappy and the detachable keyboard inspired. Sound is "meh" but you should never expect much from a laptop. Everything was great until working one day I hear a "pop" then proceed to see a crack marching across from the side center of the screen. Everything still worked but that crack was crazy and kept growing when the screen stayed on. So, I shut it down and reached out the ASUS support. They were great at the first contact and, given that it was only one month old, fully under warranty for repair. All I had to do was send it in which you have to pay for...not cool thing #1. Not cool thing #2 was that I chose the expensive option to return with next day shipping to make sure I could get it back in the 7-10 day window they quoted. I also paid for next day shipping for returning. $170 bucks in expedited shipping costs later, I handed the beloved laptop over to FedEx for quick delivery. I log in to FedEx the next day and realize that ASUS gave me a GROUND label even though I paid for expedited! So, 6 full days later the laptop showed checked in at the repair center. So, back to ASUS support I go only to find that they had the wrong shipping number and kept telling me that my laptop had not left Seattle. I even uploaded proof with their person's initials for accepting the return. Three days later I chat back with ASUS support and they still have not logged in the laptop which has officially been in their hands for 4 days! Eventually they found it and here I sit still waiting for any word on when I will get it back. Also, no offer to refund my $170 bucks for the expedited shipping I did not receive. So, buyer beware...it's a great device until it does not work and like me, you will be up a creek without a paddle waiting to hear that your laptop is repaired and heading back to you...hopefully with the expedited shipping that you paid extra for. This Asus Zenbook Duo Laptop UX8406MA (2024) with the Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 9 185H processor and 32GB RAM is the most amazing computer I've ever owned! The multiple dual screen configurations make this the most versatile and productive computer I could hope for. In the smallest configuration as a 14" laptop, the computer is small, convenient and easy to use in tight spaces like on your next flight or in your easy chair. I doubt I'll have need for my old Tablet now. Fully expanded into a dual monitor configuration, this computer becomes a powerhouse. I use it for charting as well as music production. The computer is faster than the gaming laptop it replaced and I have no regrets. In fact, I purchased this same model computer for my wife earlier this year and liked it so much I bought this one for myself... All this said, you can check and see that I don't leave reviews. I've expected this form factor for a while now. I saw the writing on the wall 10 years ago and I understood why they couldn't exist then. I was really wondering how the touchscreen keyboard was going to play out when these dual screens start coming to the mainstream and Asus solved that issue entirely on the first try. In order to make the products we dream of we have to work around the battery limitations and up till about 3 years ago, this concept just wasn't possible without making it very thick and heavy. The advancements made in power management have been significant and Intel now offers a powerful 9 Ultra SoC that sips battery usage. I review laptops that are sent to me all the time (not for Amazon) and some have cutting-edge tech but nothing like the Asus UX8406. Asus gets so much right that it is hard to find a fault in anything. They have covered just about every little thing that you could complain about. Since I mentioned the keyboard first, lets start with that. The typing experience is probably the best I have ever tried. You truly sacrifice nothing. The key travel, backlighting, and terrific touchpad that supports gestures all come together to make for an amazing input experience. When disconnected from the laptop, you can burn through the keyboard battery in 45 minutes if you use the backlight heavily. Asus thought of that scenario already and offers a USB C charge port built-in on the side of the keyboard. So if you need to have backlight, you can. The dual 3K 120 MHz displays look as good as you would expect they would. I would easily say that they have no equal as far as laptop displays go. You can crank up the resolution and use Windows zoom to about 150% and get excellent results. On to the new Intel Arc 8 core graphics chip. This thing games! GTAV, Forza 5 Horizon (at the highest resolution), and Ultimate Spiderman are all I've tested but I came away shocked. Its really good. I didn't buy it for games but it's a huge bonus! The Intel 9Ultra and 32GB RAM mean that I'm never waiting for this laptop. It is as fast as you are at commanding it. I have had very few hiccups in performance and since the last BIOS update, I have had zero. My use case is remote IT support and Adobe CC 2024 apps and it handles both exceptionally. Before this laptop, I was using a Surface Studio Laptop 2 and I swear that thing (still under warranty) seems like a relic now. I'm sure that you have your use case in mind if you're shopping for this laptop so I wont gush about the dual screen utility. You probably are like me and are used to carrying a USB monitor or two to create the extra real estate needed for enhanced workflow. Desktop Mode is my go to. There is some decent utility is the included My Asus app and I was surprised how well it worked. RAM dumping. Push one GUI button and dump your RAM. I know you can do this in a command prompt but Asus has this tool and a lot more in the My Asus app. I normally don't give the include manufacturer system app any usage other than driver updates but Asus has something here. To sum it up, I welcome this new category of laptop and look forward to the innovation that will come from this pioneering product. This laptop has an interesting design. I've had it for a week now and quite enjoy some aspects of it. However, it has a fatal flaw that is going to lead me to return it if ASUS cannot fix it (which seems doubtful). The keyboard has a chatter problem. Frequently, it will insert double characters from keyboard bounce when typing. Most noticeable is that it will change "the" to thee". I thought my poor typing was just due to adjusting to a new keyboard, but after a while I realized that it was the computer. You can learn more if you search for "thee" "ASUS" and "chatter." You will find others having this issue for ASUS machines, not even just this model. Notably, a plug-in keyboard works just fine. I have now spent hours dealing with ASUS support and trying to figure out what is going on. ASUS is given me a bit of a runaround, saying I need to send the entire unit back for repair, which will waste a lot of my time. I am likely to simply return the unit because other people have done such an exchange and the new unit has the exact same issue. I have asked them to send me a new keyboard to try but as of yet they are unwilling to do that. I will not fix thee typos in this paragraph. I ended up buying a second computer. It has the exact same problem, straight out of the box. I have attached a video showing thee chatter on thee key 'e' (it is making mistakes right now). 'e' is not thee only key that has a problem, but it may be thee most noticeable, as you can see from the paragraph where I have not corrected the problem. It's really a shame, because the dual-screen design is a terrific productivity enhancer, the pen seems good, etc. I've noticed some other little quirky things with the unit when running off the battery, but it is this keyboard issue that is a fatal flaw. By running a piece of special software to detect and help reduce the problem (Keyboard Chatter Blocker), I am able to do things like write this review without typos everywhere. When I turn it off (last paragraph), it's a disaster. Unfortunately, while that program helps tremendously, it is impossible to tune it perfectly. Typing will be disrupted no matter what on this machine. If you care about what you type being accurate and not having a maddening problem every time you type, buyer beware. I had a specific need for multiple touch monitors in a portable fashion (for a theatrical lighting control console), so the timing of this release was perfect. Starting with the cost, there's a lot of value here relative to other machines. For $200 over the base model, you get the faster CPU, twice the RAM and the higher resolution screens. TWO screens. First off, as a typical laptop, the performance is outstanding. For typical browser-based stuff and even software development, eight hours on battery is easy enough, if not more. Gaming has the usual side effects, including lower battery life and lots of heat, which is to be expected. The keyboard is adequately clicky and surprisingly stable considering it's sitting on the other screen. It's a little thicker and heavier than a similar laptop with a single screen, but not so much that it's a problem. And yes, it can even drive another external touch screen. When you peel off the keyboard and use both screens, the experience is very desktop like. If you've got a coffee table or something in front of you, you can even still use the keyboard itself on your lap, though it's not super stable that way. Using it with the screens vertical feels weird, but it's still more space than looking at a phone vertically. It's surprisingly easy to see even when outside, though at that brightness, I assume battery life takes a significant hit. The clarity and vibrancy of the OLED screens is remarkable. If you tend to work in multiple locations ad hoc and need the convenience of multiple displays, that laptop will give you a flexibility that beats carrying a standard laptop plus an external portable display. When it's closed or used with one screen only, it is just like any other laptop. Working with stacked displays vs. side by side will take a bit of an adjustment (I am usually not a fan of manufacturer software on PCs but Asus utility to manage the multiple screens does help quite a lot). When propped up, the stand does feel very sturdy but it is a table top situation, not a knees / couch situation. If you want to use it in multiple screens mode in a plane, you'll need a business class seat on an international trip... the footprint is not small! Another review mentions the keyboard not standing flat on the bottom display. I did notice that for the first few hours but it eventually fixed itself surprisingly and now the keyboard has no flex and feels very good. The keyboard battery when used in bluetooth mode is not great (4 hours-ish), so drop a short USB cable in your bag. The displays are excellent. The speakers are OK (Dolby Atmos but not much bass). The performances are excellent too (better be based on specs). The touchpad is good, not great but it's large and very serviceable. . The battery life is good for what it is... It is rated for 8 hours of dual screen uses and I doubt it will come close very often, but then again, my only test was to watch a video on the top screen and browsing with multiple tabs on the bottom screen and I must have been close to 6 hours. Acceptable in my book, you shouldn't get that laptop for its battery life, that's not the point. If you know how you want to use it, especially considering the price, this is a solid buy. Read more
