This camera is great; It has 4k resolution and works as a regular webcam so all programs can use it. This also means that its basically plug and play, no hassle with driver installs. The build quality is decent, it feels solid as everything is made from metal, id say this is quite durable. There is a cable included. Usage seems quite specific since the lens is manual zoom/focus, its for predetermined shots. Best setup with a tripod (not included) or mounted in a set position for pc streaming/ video calls. Personally ive been setting it up on a tripod to get some video and pictures of nature in my garden. I like that the lenses can be locked in place and wont move at all in the position i set, this is very helpful to keep the same setting throughout the shot even if i have to manually adjust the camera position Not sure why they went with a full USB A connection in the back of the camera but other than that, this is a very nice camera to have, so if the specs suit your needs its worth a buy. I picked up the Mokose 4K camera as I've never had one for my main PC and have only used the built-in ones on work laptops. All that's in the box is a camera (with bag and manual), a very chunky USB cable and a stand and still I was stumped for ages about how to put it together. In the end I assumed that the convex bubble of the stand was to allow for a small amount of pan and tilt adjustment and just screwed it on tightly. The camera has identical mounting holes in the top and bottom and my advice to avoid an upside down image is to assume that the USB port goes to the bottom. The camera appears in Windows Device Manager as "UC40M Video" and is available to apps such as Edge and Teams. It does need manual focussing, which I've never had to do with a built-in camera, but I imagine this will only need done once at initial setup and it probably makes the camera much more versatile for other tasks, especially with the optional lenses. The manual recommends installing Open Broadcaster Software, which I had already for use with a video capture card I once tried out. When I recorded a video via this app I found the picture to be crisp and superb, but the sound to be a bit muffled and prone to distortion in the louder parts. I don't know what part of the setup to blame for that to be honest and if I was using this professionally I'd be using a different sound capture device anyway. This webcam has a metal body which makes it feel very sturdy, and a soft, cloth bag for storage. It comes with a lens cap which doesn’t stay on, and a rubbery strip - I have no idea what this is supposed to be for. The camera has mounting holes in the top and bottom, so you can mount it from above or below without having to rotate the image output, but it doesn’t have any kind of clamp or mounting system included, so you will need your own clamp or tripod. For some reason, despite the camera itself being pretty small, the manufacturer has opted to use a USB-A connection on the back of the camera. The included cable to. connect it is very robust, which is a good thing, but this means it is also not very flexible, so you need a considerable amount of space behind the camera for the USB-A plug and the cable to fit - not ideal if you have a flat monitor set up right at the back of your desk close to a wall. The picture quality produced is good, and the output is 4K, although I couldn’t tell if this had been upscaled. The audio was fine, although I use a headset so haven’t experimented much with the native audio. Despite needing to be manually focused, the focal range is wide enough that you stay in focus on camera even though you naturally move around behind the desk whilst working. The manual focus means that the camera doesn’t auto-focus away from you if there is movement elsewhere in the background, which could be handy for use in shared spaces. Overall the camera seems solidly built and it performs well, but the decision to use a USB-A connector on the back makes this camera feel dated, and the lack of any kind of mount or stand, plus the naff lens cap, is disappointing for £85. Picked up for review to see if I could use this in the workshop for recording some turning. For my use, this camera is likely overkill but paired with a different microphone for recording the audio, this is a very capable camera with native 4k output. The focus is able to be adjusted but note that it will not autofocus which can be an issue if the distance from the camera to the object changes. Fine for my overhead shots on the lathe where the distance is fixed and not subject to variation. As others have noted, the inclusion of 1/4"*20tpi threaded holes mean you can use standard photographic mounting hardware to fix the position of your camera. If you are doing pieces to camera from a fixed position, this could well do the job for you but the short depth of field means you are risking being out of focus for any mobile subjects. Read more
