I really loved how the shell had turned out eXtremeRate never disappoints with there quality and attention to detail. I see a lot of bad reviews talking about the install is too hard or the shell doesn’t fit good. I would not recommend to buy the full shell swap if you can’t follow a video review eXtremeRate has on there YouTube channel. Just a reminder there is a ton of small parts so keep that in mind if you’re going to do the install. Had to replace the shell because the rubber on the original was yellowing and peeling off. It’s not fun taking apart, it’s not hard, but it is tedious. I suggest not making the mistake I did and taking apart the magnetic Hall effect sensors, cause they’re not fun to put back together. Watch a video, extremerate has plenty. I didn’t, and that’s my fault, lol. It’s not a bad replacement shell though. It’s matte and kinda slick, and things don’t snap together absolutely perfectly, but it is pretty close. I’m a huge horror movie fan, so this one was pretty cool. All together, I don’t have any complaints. It saved my 200 dollar edge controller that was out of warranty from looking any worse, and I got exactly what I was looking for. Extremerate has a good track record with me for replacement parts, so I always try to use them when I can. Read more

I've got to say I'm proud of myself for taking apart a PlayStation edge controller it was my first one of this generation. I took a few of the PlayStation 4 dual shocks during that generation apart but not a PlayStation 5 controller first one that I've done and it was an edge which has more components to it absolutely love the way this thing turned out the transparent shell is so cool and it looks really great. All the buttons work just as they did with the original shell and the controller feels really nice. The biggest thing I will say when doing this is make sure to just watch the video step by step and take your time especially with All the tiny components I think an average person that's never took in something apart like a controller before could do this. They have the full upload on YouTube just follow the steps it's a really fun project took me a little over an hour cuz it was my first time doing it. I'm definitely buying another shell in the future and doing it to a stock PS5 controller very happy with my purchase and ill say if you have a random PS5 controller and you like fiddling with electronics like a basic white one give it a shot it's a really fun thing to do and it gives your controller a cool killer look over that basic boring white controller. I also do want to state that some people said the sturdiness didn't feel right but for me it has great build quality in the sturdiness everything popped in none of the little things broke everything worked great. After mixing “Hope Gray”, “Black”, and “Scarlet Red” complete shell kits and buttons for the Dualsense Edge controller, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the pieces all fit very well together. I had never did this before and found the instructional video was nearly sufficient to completely explain the process. There were 3 points in the installation video that became difficult. So I had searched for other videos and pieced together these other sources of information in order to solve the problems I was having. 1) The shoulder (trigger buttons L2 &R2) had springs that popped off when disassembled. These springs were not mentioned in the video at all, probably due to my Edge Controller being a different model than the one in the video. I was able to find another video source that completely described the installation of these springs. 2) The shoulder (trigger L2 & R2) buttons have a part inside the button that needs to be removed, but the video doesn’t completely describe how to remove these parts. I was able to piece together information from other videos to remove these parts from the buttons. 3) There were several occasions where the pieces would not fit together and I had to take them apart and reassemble them over and over until they finally fit. Patience was key here. These shell kits do not come with all the tools you may need, such as tweezers for electronics, hairdryer/heat gun for the touch control pad, and a magnetic pad for organizing all the screws that are removed in the disassembly process, and a magnetic screwdriver is a huge bonus. The installation process took me just about 3 hours to complete. I did not replace the touchpad. Had I replaced the touchpad, I assume the installation process would’ve taken another half hour. These complete shell kits are a great value when you consider the cost to have someone build a custom controller. I would’ve easily spent an additional $100-$200 dollars more if I had this custom built. Overall the look is great. I got everything I was looking for in controller with a customized shell. The pieces fit well together, (admittedly) after several attempts of reassembling them. I was fortunate not to have any unsightly gaps in between the pieces. The quality is great and is similar if not equal to the strength, thickness and durability of plastics used in a controller directly from PlayStation. Much like the original plastics that came with the controller, I found the grip of this shell to be rather slick. So I installed some thin, rubberized grip, which makes for a very nice non-slip grip. This grip also helps with keeping the controller from sliding around on a hard surface like a table. Now I’m very happy to have a controller that I love the look of! Read more
