The portal feels lighter than it looks, feels a lot like dualsense PS5 controller. After a firmware update, you no longer are required to own a PS5 to use this product, as long as you have a Playstation plus premium subscription. With the subscription, you're allowed to use the beta feature to stream certain selected games (around 100). The portal functions like a Wii U gamepad essentially & it shows whatever is on your PS5 displayed on the portal screen. The portal will not play cloud streaming games if you try to access them through the PS5, nor will it function with any media apps. I started using my portal by connecting it to my PSN account. Then I made sure I used an ethernet cable for my PS5, because it allows for a smoother experience & lets you use the portal anywhere there's wifi available. I have not tested the quality of this feature, but I have spent dozens of hours playing games at my house when my gf or roommates are using the tv my PS5 is set up with. If several people are using the broadband then the portals connection to the PS5 will become unstable, but I can safely say that this is not a frequent issue. There's a bit of a delay but honestly it's not that much worse than modern wireless controller input delay. I wouldn't think to play games online with my portal but I've played a ton of elden ring on it & it feels great. I love handheld consoles but this isn't really a console, it's mostly an accessory. Despite that, I really enjoy it. It's hard to recommend to people because most people will be content playing their Playstation library on their tv screen, but if you live with several people & don't own several tvs, then it's a nice option for gamers. Admittedly, I was skeptical when I first ordered the Portal. I'd previously used an app on my phone for game streaming, and it worked ok, but the Portal absolutely blows that app out of the water. The wifi connectivity is surprisingly reliable. I've been using it in my home for months now and n have rarely had any issues maintaining a connection. The screen is larger than expected, with even small details in games being very visible. The device is a little weighty but not so much that it tires out my arms, even after prolonged gaming sessions. Battery life is longer than expected. From a full charge, it takes literally hours to deplete it. And even if you do, it can be played while charging on any USB-C charging cable (so, probably the same one for your phone). Controls are laid out exactly like a PS5 controller, with a touch screen feature making up for the lack of a touchpad. The appearance is sleek and stylish. It looks and feels good in your hands. I do recommend getting a carry case and screen protector to keep it looking sharp. The Portal is an impressive little device, let's keep it looking that way! If you'd like to be able to take your game to another room, or if someone wants to use the TV while you're trying to keep your game going, this is the perfect solution. I love the PS Portal. I didn't get it. I still don't. But I love it. Pros: - Can game anywhere in your home wifi network pretty well. Graphics look almost as good as the PS5. It has had a few drop outs while in the bathroom for some reason and it stutters. But generally only has happened a few times. - Works decently on phone hotspot. It's playable, granted it hiccups more than I'd like it too. And the graphics don't look as sharp as home network. - Feels like playing PS5 on the go, in bed, or lying on the couch. Almost the same graphical power and look- it doesn't look quite as good as tv but it's very close- especially coming from the antique switch. Cons: - No browser, so you have to use hotspot/wifi over connecting it directly while on restaurant/hotel wifi - No blu tooth audio, that's a big issue, but maybe due to latency? Wired headphones work great though. - No downloadable playable media. If it had this, this game system would be the king. - Hard to get (check out the app Hotstock. I found one in less than two days casually looking on the app). - Screen is quite reflective, so hard to play outside in the sun. - It sometimes drops wifi connection and it's laggy or slow during those moments, not great for multiplayer games where speed and accuracy is an asset. - It takes around 20-30 seconds to boot up. So if you're a grab and play for a few minute kind of person, huge disadvantage vs a switch, where I could pick it up and play immediately for 5-10 minutes. This is a bit more of a time commitment. - YOU HAVE TO keep your PS5 on rest mode or this won't function at all. If you have a home power outage while on a trip, you're carrying around a portal for nothing. Not only does it need to be on, but you need to be logged into your account on your machine. - My hands aren't quite as large so the controller is a little big in my hands compared to the smaller switch, so it's a little less comfortable, but doesn't bother me that much. - get a case, this thing is big and more delicate. The case makes it feel really solid. I got a clear case with a screen protector, it's nice. Reasons I got a Portal: I love handheld gaming - I've played my switch 90/10 to my ps5. My biggest drawback to using a switch or a steam deck, I like being able to play on the TV and on handheld- but the switch has huge graphical drawbacks, so I never hooked it up to the TV. It's really cool to have your games all be on one cohesive network of games and saves. The screen is really nice and looks about as nice as playing on my TV. Anyone that approaches this with an open-mind will love it. I'll probably keep my switch for trips and keep the portal at home for playing in bed or lying on the couch. I've enjoyed it- once they get a PS5 connected handheld that can download games and create a cloud saving- I'm completely in. Read more

Although my absolute wish from Sony would be for a dedicated handheld, this will do for now. Form factor and ergonomics - Very comfy to hold and not heavy. Essential a Dualsense controller shopped in half with a screen attached in between. So regular Dualsense users will feel right at home. The only thing that takes getting use to is the PS button and the touch screen for obvious reason. I really like how the power, volume buttons are designed to be away from the top of the screen bezel compared to other handhelds. This prevents accidental button pressing and is easy to reach. And for once, the controller (I'll call it lightbar) is visible while gaming, so seeing games interact with this light is amazing. Playing the Portal (wired internet connection to PS5) - Although the latency is there, most games are very playable. Playing first person shooters are difficult, especially games that require fast reaction times, but playable. Playing games away from my home also works great. It was highly hesitant about playing games with slow latency, but being able to catch up on games while in bed or when the TV is being used is a huge win for me. Current game I am playing is Silent Hill 2 and it runs great on the Portal. Minor downsides - Battery life, I think can be better. I'm getting roughly 3 to 4 hours of game play with full Dualsense features, speakers, and screen brightness high (not full brightness). I think it's a given that if I disable most of the Dualsense features the battery would last longer, although all the features are so nice to have on a portable device. The speakers could also be better, although fairly loud, the clarity and low tones such as bass are missing. At least comparing to Steam Deck, the speakers are much better here, where you can actually here more details in games. With the Portal, I found that it was lacking that clarity, Silent Hill 2 for example, it is hard to hear the ambient background noise, and surrounding enemy direction. The other sounds are amplified such as character grunts and voices. Overall I'm really enjoying this streaming device, and only hope Sony will come out with a dedicated handheld with the same form factor. My husband and I tend to struggle to share the tv and since I prefer handheld gaming anyway I picked up one of these. It's been a game changer!I struggled with a little bit of lag/stuttering with a few games when I first purchased it but a quick google search showed that the true issue was my PS5 wasn't hardlined yet. Bought another ethernet cable the next day and it's been perfect ever since! So far I've played the entirety of Kingdom Hearts 2.5 FM on it and it runs (and looks) just as good as playing directly on my PS5.

This product is phenomenal when you have a good internet connection. I’m able to play any game from my PS5. It’s really a fantastic way to have your games on the go without having to buy a separate copy for your portable gaming.I will say it’s best to have a good grasp of the game on console before switching to this, especially if the game uses button prompts on the screen. For example, Madden is really tough to see the icons for “secure catch” or “run after catch.”If you know the controls by heart, it’s no big deal.It runs really well of phone hotspotting, you just have to manually configure the network first. It will burn through hotspot data FAST. Like 5gigs every 1-2 hours. So this is only really a viable option if you have unlimited high speed hotspot.I’ve found a few local places that have a strong enough signal on free WiFi to play without interruption. It just takes experimenting.I do wish the screen was a bit bigger, a tablet size screen would really do well. At the same time, I get they’re still trying to keep it compact.

It’s honestly pretty good if you have really good internet , but if you don’t, you can expect a very poor experience. Wild only recommend if your internet is like top tier, or if you don’t mind a little latency.

This is item is TRASH. I’m always having connectivity issues, and when I try to use it remotely at the office the ps portal can’t connect to my ps5 despite trying different networks and they all run at 100 MBPS and above (office wifi, mobile data, portable wifi). Nada!It works fine when both my ps5 and ps portal is connected under the same network, but the device has no use when it’s connected to a different network as it can’t connect. My dear friends, please think carefully before getting this device. Otherwise you just end up purchasing an overpriced controller that you can only use within your house.
