TL;DR: best ssd for ps5 and ps5 pro. I upgraded from a 2tb Samsung 980 to this (4tb 990). It gives roughly 4.1tb worth of storage, so you actually get more than whats advertised, WHICH NEVER HAPPENS. I wanted to buy the 8tb, but I saved $300 buying this and the 4tb Samsung t9 (get the t7 instead. I detailed it in my review for that). Like the previous ssd, it works as if running directly from the console. I bought this (and the t9) in preparation for the ps5 pro, downloaded everything (on both storages), and just waited for the pro to come in. When it did, I just installed the 990 into the pro, and that was it. Again, works as if installed into the console itself. All the benefits of using a pro (better visuals, better fps, pssr) are all noticeable with 0 issue. I have over 50 ps5 games, with equals about 2tb in storage. This combined with the internals (roughly) 1.5tb (usable), and the t9 gives me almost 10tb worth of storage. Seems insane, but can fill up quickly if you buy a lot of games, ESPECIALLY if they take up a lot of space (*cough* CoD *cough*). I think the price is decent, wish it was a little cheaper, but you can buy 2tb for around $150, so there's that. It's also dumb easy to install. Taking the ps5/pro's plate is harder than installing this, just make sure you have different screwdriver sizes on hand (don't know the size. If you have a multi socket screwdriver, you'll be fine). In the end, regardless of which storage capacity you go with (recommend 2tb minimum), this is the ssd to buy. Read more

I’ve come to favour Samsung for ssd memory. Their venerable T7 is possibly one if not the most widely used ssd ever and having been so, we know Samsung has learned how to make reliable products. I have several T7 and T7 Shield ssd’s for years now and never had one problem. So when it came time for another stick nvme for me it was a no brainer. I’ll say, I do have Lexar sticks too which have been flawless, but the 4 TB Samsung was on sale and I didn’t think twice about it. I use these in ssd enclosures. Ugreen and ACASIS. I use two Ugreen’s 40 GBPS enclosures in Raid 1 as my back up for all my videos. I’m an amateur photographer and make lots of family videos throughout the year. These are backed up on my iCloud as I’m in the Mac IOS echo system. But I want copies I myself control so if any catastrophes happen I have my own copies. Two to be exact. So I use the soft raid system in my MacBook Pro to arrange the raid 1 set up and well, it kind of works perfect. In Raid 1 set up, I’m getting around 2700 mbs transfer speeds. Over 3000 mbs read. Alone, with my Thunderbolt 4 set up, these Samsung 990 Pros get over 3000 mbps individually. See my attached photo - that’s the measurement for individual speeds when in the Ugreen 40 gbps enclosure. Not bad. And I’m really happy that within the raid 1 system, it’s a bit lower, but still blazing fast. And of course, this taking into account that unless you go Thunderbolt 5, you are essentially using only half the potential of the 980 Pro. If you are in Thunderbolt 4 or lower, you can save good money with a stick that isn’t nearly this fast. I’m just a person who likes getting the best stuff, even when it’s not needed. It’s just one of my defects. Ok, cons. Well, stick style SSD’s get super hot under moderate to significant use. I really don’t know how they survive. But they do. The Samsung 980 Pro is no different. Yes, I put a 2mm heat sinking gel on the memory, the enclosure has a fan, but holy man, it still generates allot of heat. Nothing I haven’t seen before, but if this is your first experience with these, keep that in mind. I do recommend getting an enclosure with big heat sinks (see OWC) or one that has good reviews for heat dissipation. Anyways, this is 980 Pro is a top-tier memory stick that has the brand name of performance and reliability. Only time will tell if it lives up to all that. But based on my experience with Samsung memory, it’s the best I’ve come across. Recommended. Read more

Lo compré para ser instalado en mi play station 5 (PS5) y debo decir que los videojuegos almacenados en el disco duro samsung los corre mucho más fluidos qué incluso los almacenados en le disco duro interno del PS5. No requiere de un disipador de calor por que ya que lo trae instalado, la velocidad de transferencia es de lo mejor del mercado a pesar de que el equipo salio a la venta hace 3 años. The product arrived well packed and protected in its box. The installation was supposed to be quick, but since it comes with a built-in heatsink, I had to remove the one that comes by default with the Gigabyte Z790M AX ICE motherboard and I was missing the screw to secure it. So, you know, get one. I just installed it as the main operating system disk in the slot closest to the processor and it works very well. I recommend downloading the Samsung Magician program to control the LED light and monitor it. I also took the opportunity to do some reading and writing tests and I think they are within expectations. So far, this product is going very well for me. I recommend it. Read more
