Out of the box it looked really good and seemed to have a build quality above what the price would suggest. Bright keys and sharp appearance. Within hours of use it started having problems. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, it could have just been a faulty USB cable, but it was having trouble staying connected to my PC. Lights flicking on and off, Windows making that connect / disconnect sound continually. Ultimately I just didn't care for the 'feel' of the keys (brown) and layout, which is a very "me" issue, not the KB itself so instead of getting a replacement I got a return and my search for the "perfect" econo mini keyboard continues. First, about my daily keyboard use and why I picked this model... I am an accountant. I game, and I write. I use a ten-key at the office, but not at home and take the same TKL (tenkeyless) keyboard to/from work every day and appreciate a compact board. I LOVE the clack of blue and brown switches, but they are a bit much at the office. So I ordered this board with black switches. ADORE it. Office pros: -Black switches are QUIET, but still mechanical feeling (because they are). -Certain dedicated keys necessary to navigate spreadsheets: Arrow keys! Home/End keys! Delete! PU/PD. -Compact and good for commute or travel (without sacrificing those extra keys mentioned above). Gaming Pros -Black switches offer good resistance (no accidental casts), short actuation compared to others. -Black switches are quiet and don't annoy my husband as much, could be a con. I know a lot of MOBA gamers prefer Red switches, and that's not an option for this product right now. I play MMOs. Other thoughts... If you are into swapping out your keycaps, like me, it's useful to know the size and profile of individual keys on this board. I included a diagram here of which keys are a little special. Key profile is OEM, though you won't find a keycap "set" with accurate labels for this board, and may have to go with blanks for the oddballs like the 1x1.25 arrow, escape, and delete, end, and right shift keys. Function key is on the TOP row, which is weird and nice. The... bad? Not really, but if I must... -The stock keycaps have a lovely matte finish that shows off how oily your fingers are. -There's no routing for the power cable, it's just there in the upper left corner. i was pretty impressed woth the quality of the board for the price, hotswap would be nice but at this price point i can see why its not. board is of course quite hollow but is easy to open and mod,afew layers of tape on the pcb and a thin layer of foam do help a lot. really good keyboard on a budget! i was very wary before purchasing due to how cheap it was, but after over a year i'm extremely impressed with how well it functions and has been holding up! the white backlight is clean and simple, key presses feel crisp and the compactness is perfect for my small desk. i've used the cleaning tool kit a few times and that works great too. only minor complaints are the odd sizing of the right shift key, which makes it so i never use it, and that some of the switches throughout the keyboard feel *slightly* different (more/less resistant). overall, stellar for the price, and makes a good travel/backup keyboard, or main keyboard with the option of upgrading in the future! This Ajazz keyboard is my first with mechanical switches. So I can't compare the switches to the popular Cherry or any others. So I'll just focus on the product overall. (though I found a video review regarding this model that claims keys are very similar to a Cherry Red) Its a pleasant improvement having mechanical switches. These have what would be called a "low-actuation" that is nice to have for gaming more so than typing. There is a smooth, silent operation when pressing a key. The springs feel nice to me. Sadly, they are the main source of noise that comes with a key release. While within "comfort" range for quick use or gaming, after just typing sessions I am tempted to buy key dampeners. (Not sure if they would even work given its the spring when extending that makes the noise) Another downside is how the keys are prone to easily pick up skin oils and any grease or anything that may be in your fingertips. **I do want to clarify** that they keys have not worn out in any way and the light still is clearly visible through the letters/symbols. So really, its more of a feeling "icky" than there being any issues with use. Which won't be an issue if you are mindful when using the keyboard. As an 80% size keyboard, the key locations are acceptable to good. Downside is a few Fn commands that could be moved for single hand activation. The LEDs work fine, very bright. (can be controlled) Two light modes. [ON and Pulse effect] Last thing to note, the keyboard is rather tall. While at its highest point for the Function Keys everything is fine, I do wish it was a bit lower in the mid-to-low sections. I believe this may be just a mechanical keyboard issue though.
