Very mixed feelings on this. Not sure I'll keep it. It is well made. The Amazon reviews were very misleading though. Top review says only 5 seconds and a few turns to grind your beans. Others say 15 turns, or 30 turns, and 30-60 seconds. That might be true for a tiny amount of beans at coarse grind. But for 20g of beans (2 scoops / standard coffee amount for me) at Aeropress or drip settings, it takes 50 - 55 turns or about 30-60 seconds depending on how fast you are. At espresso fineness, it takes 60-80 turns. The product marketing is misleading - it says it fits 30-35g of beans, but that's only the grounds container. The top part can only fit 20g. The fact that the grounds container is a bit oversized doesn't save any time, because I need to grind 40g of beans to make 2 cups. (I know some people use 15g/cup, but that's not our taste - also, note I'm making 10-12oz cups, not the "standard" coffee maker cup of 6 or 8oz). Since we have two people that drink coffee, we always have to do 2 rounds of this - fill with beans, 50-55 cranks of grinder, pour grinds into coffee maker. This is fine if you're single or this isn't your only grinder. But I was looking for a standalone grinder, not a collection of grinders. And if friends or family come over we might need 4 cups. Now we're at 200 turns of the grinder! If we need 4 cups twice per day, that's 400 turns. Great for getting strong forearms, but it gets tedious and boring fast. You can use an electric drill or screwdriver but it'll need to be a dedicated (clean) tool or you'll get metal shavings and wood shavings from your other household projects into your coffee beans. At that point I'd rather just buy an electric grinder. They ship no setup instructions or manual - we live in QR code manuals world now - okay no problem as long as it goes to a good manual. It does not. The manual is confusing and incomplete, it doesn't tell you what to adjust the grind to, you have to look that up separately in a blog post on their website. Also that blog post is outdated (2020) and has calibration tables only for the Jx and Je grinders which are obsolete / discontinued model names. You have to somehow know the J grinder you bought is equivalent to the Jx (but not to the Je, which will give you incorrect settings). Overall it's a well made manual grinder that is poorly documented, and mis-represented in reviews as being quicker than it is, but still a great solution if you are grinding small amounts of coffee. After attending several coffee making and tasting classes at our local favorite coffee roaster, we finally decided to take the plunge to get a burr grinder and upgrade from the old spice grinder we were using (don’t judge!). We are still amazed at how great this little grinder is- granted, it’s not very big, but we’re not making more than an Aeropress or medium French press at a time. We didn’t want to break the bank nor did we need an electric grinder, so this unit is perfect for our purposes. This little machine is easy to set up and use, quick, and a breeze to wipe out. The grind is variable and it’s easy to change the settings- this has definitely upped our coffee game. It also looks nice and while we have not done it, I can see it would be relatively easy to pack for travel. This was one of best coffee making purchases yet! Read more

The price of this grinder is worth it! I have been using it constantly everyday and it always grinds very smoothly. It allows me to enjoy perfect cup of coffee. The settings for the grinder is perfect and it can grind fine but not too fine. I use it for Pour Over and Cloth Filter which I grind it medium course setting. It is easy to clean and the kit is idea. The material is a great quality and I am happy with my purchase. Read more

After wanting to get more into coffee, doing a lot of research on the topic resulted in the conclusion that buying a grinder to freshly grind coffee beans was one of the biggest upgrades. So, after a ton more research, I had actually settled on the KINGrinder K6, with the consensus being that it was the best bang for the buck. I had also heard that one of the biggest drawbacks of it was the disassembly, that it was very difficult to disassemble and put back together, for cleaning purposes. Since I never owned a grinder before (manual or electronic), I didn't really have any context for what this would mean, hence I took a shot on it. Once it arrived, I was actually quite impressed by it (again, not really having proper context), everything seemed to be extremely well built. But, knowing my personality, I started to look into the disassembly/reassembly issue that I had heard about. After reading manuals, watching videos, and spending a decent amount of (semi-wasted) time learning about all of this, I tried to get the grinder disassembled, and failed badly. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get the pin holding the entire assembly together to come out, of course I was trying to also be delicate with everything as I didn't want to damage anything and risk not being able to return the item if it came to that. After spending enough wasted time and getting frustrated, I decided that it needed to go back, and in that regard I was glad I never got it disassembled, because I realized that it would have been very likely I wouldn't have been able to properly reassemble it afterwards. So, back to the drawing board with more research. Ultimately, I decided to just spend the extra money to buy a 1Zpresso, and I picked the J Manual model because it seemed to be the best bang for the buck one for pourover that 1Zpresso has. The only thing I dislike about 1Zpresso grinders is the very confusing naming and changing of their lineup, for instance the J Manual was actually the Jx from previously with very minor upgrades. When the grinder arrived, it was actually even nicer than the KINGrinder K6 in overall feel, build quality, and impression. The first thing I tried was the disassembly and reassembly, which as I had already researched, was decently easy. Note that it wasn't perfect, once you do a disassembly and reassembly, if you want the number dial to line up with the "zero" of the grinder, it is incredibly difficult to get right. However, if you just use the numbers as a reference point and don't care that zero is zero, then it's not a big deal. I have now since used the grinder almost daily for about a month and a half, and the grinder continues to be a pleasure to use. Grinding is seemingly very easy, satisfying, and foolproof. Everything is machined very precisely, and the entire unit is very solid. Overall, I feel that the item is worth the money paid, which for me is a very satisfying feel. Read more

I was skeptical, given that the 1Zpresso J is many times more expensive than my previous grinder. However after two months of daily use, I’m impressed by its solid build quality, the speed with which it grinds coffee beans, and its good looks. It’s a worthwhile investment. My three year old JavaPresse frustratingly met its demise when some of its critical components, made of plastic and held in place with glue, came undone. I was primed for an upgrade and I liked how all the functional elements of the 1Zpresso J were made of metal, which set it apart from some others on the market. I ordered one. This thing is over-engineered. And I love that about it. Made almost entirely of metal, with a surprising heft and featuring tight and precise tolerances, I’m confident that this thing will outlive me. And it works well. In less than 5 seconds and just a few turns of the crank, my coffee beans are prepped and ready for their soak in the french press. Meanwhile, using the Javapresse felt like a workout at times, taking closer to a minute to complete its task and requiring far more rotations of the crank. It looks good.
