Northrop F-5 was created in the 1960s with the aim of meeting the need of numerous NATO member states that demanded a simple, economical and easy-to-maintain multi-purpose combat aircraft. The F-5E Tiger II was born from the original airframe in the early 1970s. Equipped with a pair of new J85-GE-21 engines that deliver significantly more power and thrust than the previous version, the model has an extended and enlarged fuselage. The improved flight performance achieved with the new aerodynamic layout, extended range and improved avionics have resulted in the Tiger II being successfully used by numerous air forces. The basic equipment consists of two 20 mm cannons installed in the bow below the cabin, with the possibility of using various combinations of air-to-air missiles. However, in addition to his primary role as a fighter aircraft, he also retained extensive ground attack skills.
