We needed to upgrade our router as it had served us well during its service life, so we had a few generations worth of technology to catch up... We did our research to learn the technical improvements (speeds, etc.), read mulitple reviews, and settled on this model. The only negative reviews seem to come from American websites so I am not sure if networks work differently over that side of the pond, but it has been very easy to set up, and runs without issue. The signal strength is very good (we live in a large, old Victorian building with solid walls and have full coverage on every frequency), and the speed is excellent. I think this is the sweet point before diminishing returns as every faster model is considerably more expensive. Nothing is perfect but for the most part, this one gets it right. I noticed right away after installing that it disconnected the Wi-Fi, so I looked at the log file and noticed that the router had crashed. I thought that maybe it crashed once at the beginning and it would be fine, so I rebooted it. Now I see that it is continuing to crash once a day or two. So I've had two of these. And both suffered from several of the same issues one wouldn't allow not loop back even though it's supposed to be the default. Then I started having connections dropped. I've had both of the routers one of them working as a hardwired backbone extender for a few years. I finally upgraded to a Wi-Fi 7 from a competing company and I'm getting literally three times faster connections the the internet. On wireless the fastest I've gotten on this was 600 and it usually was between 400 and 500. The TP router I just bought connects me at 1.2 GB/ps If I'm right next to the router (which is as fast as my internet speeds can go). This has a much better UI, better parental controls, better QOS management, better security but it's nowhere near as fast as it should be and I've had issues with both of the units that I've gotten. And before you think it's the user error I have a master's degree in Telecom Management And I've worked in IT for years. I'm also running A home server that sees frequent use. The issues also occurred with wired connections, so it's something with the router software. This has much better software features then the router I just purchased but the base reliability and speed needs some serious work. For those interested I switched to the deco E95's and I'm changing from a 4 node net mesh to a 2 note mesh. One good thing to know is if you stay with Asus all of your old routers can be changed to wireless access points. If you have a wired connection you can use a hardwired backbone as well to minimize the backhaul traffic. Read more
