Don't buy it if you are not going to mod it, or EQ it. In stock the sound signature, frequentct response is super bad. But if you will only change the pads as I showed on the image, it will be a bargain for 150$. Now with the mod, they do sound really good, will bit any other closed back options up to 300$-400$ easily. But sound staging isn't big at all as they advertise. Idk, maybe for a closed back it is but they will lose every competition with every open back headphones in terms of sound staging. About everything else, in very happy, specially for 150$ only. So if u r ready for modding, then just grab it, it will be amazing! If not, then I recommend you to skip it and look for some other options like Fiio ft1 for example. Read more

Well I own some good headphones: Sennheiser HD600 300$, Sennheiser HD650 300$, Sennheiser HD660s2 500$, Neumann NDH 20 500$, Ananda Nano 500$. No doubt Sundara Closed Back beats HD650 and HD660s2 easily. NDH20 is better that Sundara Closed Back but Sundara Closed Back is way more comfortable. I can't keep NDH 20 on my head for more that 30 minutes. Even thought NDH 20 are my favorite headphones of all time, I don't use them, they are that uncomfortable. Sennheiser HD600 is great but it is good for only specific applications, 50 percent of the time it sounds dull, and you are just waiting for these great legendary HD600 moments. I also own Hifiman ANANDA Nano 500$. ANANDA Nano is virtually perfect headphones, it is HD600 on super mega steroids, I would say that Sundara Closed Back is great for someone who wants closed back version of ANANDA Nano, it's not Ananda Nano but I would say it's one half of Ananda Nano sound. In some way Sundara Closed Back sounds even better than Ananda Nano, this intimate sound in Sundara Closed Back is great. But still technically it's almost impossible to beat Ananda Nano. Buy it, it looks like after HIFIMAN cut it's price so dramatically from 400$ to 150$ you can't go wrong with Sundara Closed Back because it sounds really good. P.S. The first thing I thought when I put my first HIFIMAN headphones Ananda Nano on my head was: "Sennheiser is in trouble." I also own: Sennheiser HD26, Sennheiser HD25, Sennheiser HD280, Audio Technica ATH-M60X, Sony MDR 7506 and many other headphones. Only Sennheiser HD26, Sennheiser HD25, Sennheiser HD280, Sennheiser HD600 and Neumann NDH 20 (Sennheiser's brand) are still worth buying. The rest of Sennheiser's line is dead. You might as well skip Sennheiser completely and go full HIFIMAN mode because in 2024 HIMIFAN is a new king of headphones. Read more

The Hifiman Sundara closed-backs are an awesome closed-back headphone option for the price, especially at $130. They're even better if you have EQ settings applied (I have a Qudelix 5K). Build quality feels great, I really like the wooden cups and the soft ear pad material. However, the ear cups are pretty small, so the headphone might not fit those with larger ears (fortunately my ears are pretty small). Tonality without EQ is kind of lacking, especially in the midrange. Bass is ok but it's not really a heavy hitter. Vocals feel recessed at times, which can be explained by a quick search of a graph online. Not enough lower and upper treble IMO. However, I found oratory's EQ settings online, applied those, and all issues were fixed (except for bass quality). I really love this headphone now. Technicalities are great, I would say the instrument separation feels better on these than my HD560s, my KZ PR2s (those are IEMs), and 7Hz Dioko (also IEMs). Soundstage is pretty small. Read more
