So the 172 has more features than what I will most likely use, but it’s always handy to have them (seems like it’s mainly for quick setting switches and convenience). I’ve used some of the older versions (152 & 154 I think) and they do the job with no issues at all, but this newer 172 really does look great, feels very reassuring and weighty, the LED setup is much better than the older versions, and it can deliver more power than the older ones too. This is definitely my go to on things you don’t want to get the big 1/2” impact on, and speeds up any job you don’t want to be doing by hand if not necessary! Read more

Zu den besonderen Eigenschaften zählt die elektronische Programmauswahl, die per Tastendruck gut zugänglich und per LED optisch gut sichtbar in perfekter Position sitzt- und zwar zum Monteur hin zugewandt. Ein Schnelltaster auf dem Pistolengriff ermöglicht dabei zusätzlich einen raschen Wechsel zwischen 2 vordefinierten Programmen. z.B. vorbohren und danach eine Schraube eindrehen. Arrived on time but it was left on my front deck in full view of the road in the original Makita box advertising to anyone walking by exactly what it is. With the cost of this tool I would have thought that Amazon would have made some effort to hide what it is, even if they put it in a large paper bag or something? I have been using Makita tools for over 25 years and can honestly say that I have never had one fail to work, I go to work and my Makita tools are always ready to work with me. A couple of years ago I decided it was time to start upgrading my brushed (but still working) Makita 18V LXT tools to the newer and more powerful Makita Brushless 18V LXT tools, and I am sure glad that I did. I started slowly updating my tools and this is the last one that I wanted. I had upgraded to the Makita DTD153Z first and although it is a good brushless impact driver, I found it lacking in versatility. This newer DTD172Z has everything I could ask for and is so refined that even on basic settings it is super smooth and very quiet. The trigger response alone requires very little force and is silky smooth to operate and I really like the quick change button just above the trigger as it makes changing settings fast and easy. I do maintenance and do all the repairs in 111 apartments and look after everything on the site. I do everything from electrical, plumbing, carpentry, cabinetry and everything in-between. With the amount of settings on this impact driver I now only need to take this to do virtually all my fastening jobs without stripping screw heads, over tightening or stripping screw holes and threads. Is this the most powerful impact driver on the market, no, but it is the most versatile and probably one of the most reliable.
