I’m an experienced user of proper coffee machines and consider myself a careful and informed person. But it never occurred to me that a coffee machine could become mouldy inside, where you can’t see it. I noticed mould occasionally appearing in the coffee container if I didn’t wash it for a day — despite the fact that I clean it almost daily, unless I’m away from home. But what I didn’t realise is that the entire internal system had become full of mould. I’ve likely been drinking mould-contaminated coffee for months without knowing it. It’s not just the visible parts — the mould grows inside the group and likely deep into areas like the grinder, which cannot be properly cleaned, even with water or vinegar. Mould spores travel everywhere. Once they get in, you cannot fully remove them. As a result, I’ve become ill. I now experience constant pain in the liver/gallbladder area, and I strongly suspect it’s due to prolonged exposure to mould toxins through this machine. The worst part is that there’s no warning or clear cleaning instruction that addresses this hidden build-up. Why has no one held Philips accountable for such a serious design flaw? Really impressed with this coffee machine—great value for the price. It’s a bit noisy while running, but that’s pretty standard. The milk frother works nicely, and the coffee tastes great, even though there are just two options (as mentioned). Setup took a little time, but once it was up and running, everything worked smoothly. It also fits perfectly in my kitchen and doesn’t take up too much space, which is a big plus. Read more

I've only been using this for a few weeks so can't really talk about durability though it looks like a sturdy machine. The cup of coffee it produces is really good and it works relatively quickly. Makes a bit of noise but we don't really care about it. The steam wand I found a bit disappointing so be prepared to have to warm and froth your milk on your own. Overall for the money, it will make you a very good cup of coffee quickly and with no fuss and it has some decent options for grind thickness. Also the water filter is a nice to have for a hard water area like London. Highly recommended. Read more

Once I tried a making a few cups I got the drink I wanted. The espresso if brilliant however the 'coffee' settings for drink size don't work for me. I brew a single espresso with large cup size then add a coffee with smallest size then frothed milk. The milk frother has been great but recently seems to not quite do the same job, I don't know if this is something I'm not doing right. I haven't altered the grind from the setting it arrived with and can't find the instruction for which way to turn for coarse or fine, as it's good I'm not bothered atm. The biggest/only gripe realy is the drip tray filling up as I am careful to carch the rinse when starting/finishing so assume this is a design fact that the tray fills with water and grounds 😒 Read more

We purchased this to replace our John Lewis own-brand espresso machine, which refused to pump any milk through, and was a very basic machine. We were slightly hesitant about getting a machine with a steam arm, as we are not skilled baristas. That said, it is incredibly simple to use. We don't know whether we have made a cappuccino, latte or flat white, however it is is a nice, frothy coffee. And the drinks are piping hot from it. The functionality is good. You can make espressos or longer coffees. For each of these, you can choose whether to make one or two simultaneously. You also can choose the strength and the size of the drink, which it remembers even after the machine has been unplugged. The bean storage is a good size, once filled it lasts a reasonable amount of time. You can adjust the fineness of the grind inside the bean storage as well, allowing for a finer or coarser grind in your drink. That said, given that it's inside the machine, it is more challenging to change this when full of coffee beans. There is a separate compartment (and measuring spoon) for using ground coffee, rather than beans. This is helpful when someone has a particular coffee preference. All waste is stored inside the machine in a little box. Everything is easy to clean, and the booklet contains clear guidance on how often to clean and lubricate the machine. I read the reviews for this before buying, so to address some of the negatives, 1. Water tank - not massive but it does the job 2. Coffee strength - agreed, single expresso shot in a cup isn’t as strong as the same amount of coffee from a more traditional expresso maker, but the work around, select double expresso and use a smaller cup selection (you can set cup size), yes you use twice as much coffee, but when you get your head back on you’ll either accept or compromise. What’s to like - you can set expresso or regular coffee cup. You can set cup size. You can select single or double drink. Cleaning up the grounds is so simple it’s untrue. Looks good on the counter. Can select grind level or use pre-ground coffee. What’s to dislike - the clean cycle, every time you power up the machine it does a clean cycle, wastes water, but you can live with it. No warning “out of coffee beans”, but you can live with it. Waste coffee alert seems to be a timer/counter rather than a sensor, so expect alerts to an empty waste coffee container on occasion. Overall, A very good price for a bean to cup coffee machine that seems to do the job. Only had it for two weeks so let’s see how reliable it is long term. Read more

Just what we wanted! nothing fancy, extremely easy to use, lovely cup of coffee and you can adjust the temperature of the water, so that you can have a lovely hot cup of coffee. You can also adjust the ml in the cup. Very good price. I could not have chosen better. It replaces my Krups bean to cup which unfortunately failed. This is far better. Read more
