Still getting 5 stars BUT a few cons in the operation of the device and the app. It’s an incredible product. CONS On the device you can’t disable some menu options and get them out of the way even though you don’t use them, like payments for example. On the app sometimes it just doesn’t connect- like changing device settings such as the watch face- not sure if just my phone or device. PROS I got the Charge 5 specifically because it doesn’t have all the smart watch features like text notifications for example. But still has a beautiful color screen and the ability to see in real time your heart rate, steps, calories burned, and zone minutes which I don’t understand. To review your sleep you must sync to your phone then you can see an overview from the device screen or in detail from the app. The app is very powerful- tons of ways to make sense of all the data points it collects I believe the sleep tracking is excellent. This was the main feature I wanted. The watch is easy to take on and off. It’s hard to interact with the display of your hands are wet. I have it on constantly and usually charge it every 5 days. It charges very quickly- like an hour or so. The heart rate tracking is very accurate There is a stress level test where you it measures electrical activity in your skin- I believe this test is useless because you have to squeeze the sides of the devise for 1-3 minutes or so- which is just not as accessible to do in the middle of the day or something. The alarm feature is great- it just silently vibrates your wrist For that reason alone I love it because I can get up and out of the house early without waking my family with a loud alarm. I purchased my Fitbit Charge 5 in September 2022. I loved it immediately. I started with the Charge 4 and simply wore it out. Imagine my disappointment when, just two days ago, my just nine month old Charge 5 completely stopped working! It would not hold a charge. It would not connect. Nothing! I worked through all the troubleshooting ideas and even Googled how to solve issues with the Charge 5 and it simply died. I thought for sure I was done in. To my great and very pleasant surprise, I contacted Fitbit Support through the My Orders page on Amazon and not only was my Fitbit still under the manufacturers warranty, I immediately received a replacement offer email and ordered my replacement... all of this happened in less than 30 minutes. I love my Fitbit. I love Amazon. I love Fitbit Support. I HATE being without my Fitbit and I am very happy they were so incredibly professional and wonderful to remedy the problem. Well done Amazon. UPDATE: 2/22/24. Well, my Charge 5 died. Just died. Had it just over 6 months. I was really pleased with this Charge 5 every single day I have had it, and I wore it every single day and night, then it acted a little wonky a couple days ago, then the next day (today) it just fully died. Was fully charged (holds charge forever) but showed nothing. Had a white line then went all black. Cant get it to do anything, even when plugged in. RIP :( Keeping my review the same. I am once again so disappointed. As per my review I happened to have purchased an Inspire 3 at same time, so I am currently charging that up. Will see if I keep with it or shop around. I did that and saw all the negatives, but I still went with it, and I will tell you why. I simply like the brand overall despite some frustrations and wasting of money, haha. I think buying a Fitbit product is taking a risk. I am still reticent to move to another brand because I havent found one I really like, and I almost never like the apps. I simply havent been impressed enough to want to make a change. I have been gifted or borrowed other brands, and I still come back to fitbit. So I just view Fitbit as a throw away item that is sure to crapp out within 2 years. Not sure if it is the product or my body chemistry as my husband STILL uses his Fitbit Blaze from late 2015 to this day. ME? I went through 2 Blazes, and several others in the same time period. I have been using Fitbit nearly exclusively for 9 years straight. I have had the early model "fitbit" (whatever it was before HR came on the scene. circa 2014), then the first Fitbit Charge, Blaze (2 of them!), Versa 2, Sense, and then very recently I went backwards to the Inspire 3 and this Charge 5, simultaneously. I bought them both as the combined price was less than one smartwatch. I decided that I really didnt take advantage of all the features of the smartwatch, and so when my Sense crappped out exactly 2 years, I decided to go with a more basic model. I hemmed and hawed between the Inspire 3 and Charge 5. For my detailed review of the Inspire 3,here is a link to my review . They are both very similar (Inspire 3 needs to have phone for GPS tracking, and although it says that the Inspire 3 does NOT have ECG app for AFIB detection, it does. Sorta. "while it can't take an ECG like the more expensive Fitbit Charge 5 or newer smartwatches, it will monitor your heart rate and alert you if it detects an irregular heart rhythm"). Then size difference. But that is about it. IF you are looking to "compare and contrast" then scroll halfway down the product description page and you will see that they list a slew of other Fitbit models to compare it to. On this product page they dont show the Inspire 3. If you want to compare this Charge 5 to the Inspire 3, then go to the Inspire 3 produc page and scroll down half way to see the models they compare it to. The Charge 5 is one of them. The battery life on this is good. Seems to hold true to the weeklong battery life. I have my watch face set to needing to be tapped/pressed rather than wrist flick, which I imagine can impact battery life, as well as other nuances. But as is it lasts all week. Image is very clear. Looks great. Nice bright clear colors and lettering/numbers. Can change watch face in app. Larger face than the Inspire 3, but smaller than the smartwatches. I think the size of face is perfect for me. Loaded with info to easily see. Scroll up, down, left, right for all the information you could possibly want. Steps seem accurate enough. I find that if anything it undercounts, which is fine. I just adjust my goal. But it is close (thats the other thing with Fitbit, i find the step counts to be pretty accurate compared to other brand names I have used). Has the button to pop the wristband on and off. The Inspire 3 has the pin style which I dont care for. Wish they would list this type of details. Overall I really like it, and am pleased with the Charge 5. It has all that I need, and at a price point that is much more reasonable over the smartwatches-- I really dont use the features on those, so why buy them? I WILL update if I experience anything worth sharing. I had gone back to my Sense review to update when it officially "died". I didnt change rating, but I figured it was good info to know. THE ONLY THING I DONT LIKE, which isnt Charge 5 specific, bit just toward Fitbit as a whole: There was a time when you could have more than one Fitbit linked to your app. NOW, in order to have one, you have to take off the other. I bought the Inspire 3 and Charge 5 at the same time with expectation that I could have both in use depending on which I felt like wearing and to compare them. So I initially used the Inspire 3 for a couple of weeks then deleted it off the app in order to try out this Charge 5. In order to switch back I have to delete the Charge 5. Its annoying. Since I prefer the Charge 5, I will either tuck the Inspire 3 away for use when this inevitably crapps out, or just give it away. Read more

Having had quite a few Apple Watches and Fitbits since their first models, Fitbit Charge 5 comes as a preferable option for me for 2 reasons. 1. Fitbit Charge 5 is a better one-stop tracker all around despite ECG not yet software enabled, even though it has been announced and is able to track it. With Apple Watch, which is a smart watch first and fitness tracker second, one can get most of the missing features by downloading third-party dedicated applications. To name a few, I feel most relevant are those doing sleep tracking (Deep, REM, Light), and heart tracking such as heart zones training rhythms (aerobic, anaerobic) and Heart Rate Variability (helps determining how much recovery one’s body needs to match current activity level). These perks come with Fitbit Charge 5 by Default. Access to more detailed statics of the same and its clarification comes with a Fitbit Premium subscription, which is free for 6 month with a newly bought device and then costs 80$/year. Given that Apple Watch is 2.5 times more expensive and all side-loaded application require standalone subscription anyway, its a no-brainer choice which one to pick if you are after just tracking your activity. 2. 6 days on one charge is still better than 2-day trip on my Apple Watch 6 stainless steel, which I admit is much more pleasure to look and interact with. Fitbit Charge 5 is very light and one would not spend time interacting with it apart from checking time or distance travelled. All the rest is usually checked mornings and evenings before and after an active day. Update after 2-month usage: in practice Fitbit Charge 5 survives 3.5 days on average. The more you turn training sessions on, the faster battery draining becomes. Statistics which Fitbit provides is what separates it from the competition. Most important measurements are taken during the night and are called Health Metrics: breathing rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, blood oxygenation, resting heart rate. All these are quite reflective of one’s fitness and health condition and are more important (and require Fitbit Premium), in my opinion, than the no-brainer activity tracking At the end of the day, pulse monitor and regular watch is all one needs to track one’s fitness efforts same way but with more efforts - the old way. Original rubber band is better than perforated one you can buy extra. Having said that upper layer of rubber got worn of quite noticeably by the end of 2nd month of daily careful use. Final thoughts: even though I liked it, I would not pay for Fitness Premium after the 6-month free period expires and will therefore stick to my Apple Watch which gets same basic metrics just right without paying monthly subscription. P.S. According to TheQuantifiedScientist, Fitbit Charge 5 offers sleep tracking (deep, light/ REM/ awake) of 78% accuracy on average compared to the professional equipment, which makes it one of the most, if not the most, accurate easy-to-use and affordable wrist-on sleep tracker. Same goes for Apple Watch heart tracking capability. On the other hand, Garmin watches provide better analyses along the better tracking capabilities. This tracker is not built to last. Here is my review after two years. First and foremost, the screen responsiveness of the Fitbit Charge 5 is a major letdown. It is incredibly frustrating to use a fitness tracker when the screen fails to register even the lightest touch. I find myself constantly tapping, swiping, and trying to wake up the screen, only to be met with limited or no response. This lack of responsiveness severely hampers the overall usability and convenience of the device. Adding insult to injury, the battery life of the Fitbit Charge 5 is shockingly poor. Despite claims of lasting several days on a single charge, my tracker now dies within a mere 2 to 5 minutes of usage. I was super happy with the watch until now, but it stopped working suddenly. I googled and saw that many have faced the same issue. I tried to reset the watch, but the battery died within an hour. This is the 4th watch I buy within 2 years. Always the same issue, update then screen stops working then watch stops working. Syncing are sometimes impossible to do or take a really long time. Contact support, make me do the same turn off or reset procedures multiple times then tell me they move up my case for warranty options.
