This is a good looking and well made kettle that pours well. It has a metal screening mesh in its built-in filter, which in my opinion is better than having the flimsier plastic types that are sometimes shipped. as the title to my review suggests, it is not without niggles. The key niggle for me is the lid opening mechanism. It opens to c. 45degrees, and to open it more fully (to c.90 degrees) you need to do so manually, which feels less than optimum when dealing with hot steam and looking to refill from a filter or tap. My kettle also has a strange rattling sound part way through the boiling process; this may go away with use, as it literally kicks in at the same point and then disappears after c.10 seconds, but currently I find find it a tad disconcerting. A third niggle was the pronounced metallic/oily scent that emanated from the kettle for the first few boilings, even after cleaning it as directed by Bosch. It did not affect the taste of the tea - or at least, not noticeably - but it did affect my sense of pleasure in using it for the first few days. The scent has fully gone with use, and apart from the lid opening niggle I am now enjoying the kettle. The build quality appears to be very good, and so long as the lid mechanism holds up then I can see this product being a robust one. (Sprung lids appear to be a key point of weakness in general electronic kettle design when they are used). A last thing to note is that the kettle is averagely loud in my experience, boils at the expected rate, does not sustain a rolling boil for very long, and while the fill display panel on the side of the kettle does the job, it is not all that easy to read the fill level as you fill as it is not illuminated. The kettle feels robust, solid and an up standard in quality to many kettles on the market. It is simple, classic looking and feels good to hold with easy access lid. The water gauges are clearly marked in white, but it is really difficult to see where the water comes to in the water gauges, even when tilting or moving to a good light source. It’s so hard to get a visual reading, I thought it must be me, but my daughter complained of the same when she came to fill it this morning.. I can estimate the water level by weight, but this makes the water gages redundant and I cannot see their purpose since they are not good for their specified intention of showing how much water is in the kettle., which is not the case, the white markings are easy to read, but one cannot see where the water is. I do like the kettle for all other reasons and I do feel I can guess the water by weight, though this is not ideal, especially when the description of the kettle specifies that it has ‘easy to read’ water gages. I am undecided whether to return the kettle or not For nyone who relays upon the water gauge feature then I advise to look elsewhere. I always get Bosch kettles because they are made to last. My last kettle of 6yrs was getting tatty and the filter had perished from use, so it was time for an upgrade from plastic to stainless steel. I've had this kettle for a few weeks now and it doesn't disappoint. Reasonably quiet, fast boil, comfortable thick handle for grip and pouring boiling water...it's modern and stylish in design. The top opens fully unlike some other brands, making it easy to fill and the filter is firmly fixed to the pouring spout, unlike other kettle where the removal filter can keep coming loose and falling out into the kettle. This kettle was a replacement for another model - variable temperature Kettle (Bosch Skyline) which failed to switch off after 2 months use. I decided to go back to basics as kettle which looks good in the kitchen, functions well witthout the complexity of too many options. The kettle boils rapidly and pours very accurately without dripping. The body is mainly stainless steel which I like compared to some of the other Bosch models which are plastic. Stainless steel looks so much better. I would say noise wise its about average for a kettle, not too noisy but not the quietest kettle you can buy. So far very impressed and good value for a well known brand. The only thing I would recommend to Bosch is why not make the illuminated so you can see the water leave when bolling. Read more

I had already seen this in a store but decided to buy on Amazon as I was getting a better price here. The quality felt great, the finish is nice, and the kettle has a good weight to it. Feels solid. However I decided to return the kettle as I have an open plan kitchen and it was just too noisy for those sitting in the joint living room. I don't recommend this kettle if you are concerned about high noise levels, otherwise if that doesn't bother you it's an excellent option. Read more
