First of all, I am in no means a "professional", "extreme", or "hard core" gamer. I don't go for MMORPGs or FPS games, with the exception of the classic "Wolfenstein 3D", but only for nostalgia's sake. The majority of the games I play are either hidden object games or first-person point-and-click puzzle games. Think of "Myst" or "Riven", or if you're like me, "Shivers". Maybe more recently, "The Eyes of Ara". That said, I wanted three things in a set of headphones or headset for my computer: 1. Great stereo sound 2. Comfort 3. Durability I have tried numerous headphones on just about every computer I've owned. Granted, how well a computer's sound depends on the sound card, but that's only halfway there. Saying a computer's sound depends solely on the quality of the sound card is like saying a car is only as good as the tires mounted on it. You have to meet it halfway there, and you need a good input/output. Like I've said, I've used numerous different headphones. I've used some $20-30 Sony headphones. I've used a pair of BioWorld headphones that featured DJ P0n-3 (back when I was into "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic"). I've used a pair of $60 Skullcandy headphones. I also used a $25 Logitech headset. None of them seemed to work properly. They might have worked for a short while, but then they'd get uncomfortable, they would break, or the sound would become "tinny" or just not clear enough. I've had to mess with the computer's volume several times on one of the Sony headphones. The Razer Kraken Tournament Edition headset has everything I could ever ask for in a headset. Its framework is durable. The cushioned headband is very wide, so it doesn't feel like it's pinching any hairs or skin. The microphone is not only retractable, which was an issue I had with the Logitech headset, but can actually be turned off. Like I said, I don't play any games that would require the microphone, but it's there if I need it. But the sound! The sound is amazing! I read some of the complaints here, and the thing is, yes, you do have to install the driver and software for the headset. It instructs you to turn up the volume all the way. You may have to tweak it, depending on your system's hardware. There are several presets for different scenarios, and depending on the quality of your system's hardware, you may need to do some serious tweaking. After being stunned by how well the couple of games I was actively playing sounded, I put the headset to the ultimate test. Music. I tried it on a couple of rap songs. The bass seemed to be pretty good. I also tried it on a couple of classic rock (my main favorite genre of music) and the headset worked great. Now for the ultimate test. Pink Floyd. Any die-hard fan or anyone who's very familiar with Pink Floyd's discography will know that they used a lot of backmasking and layered tracks on their songs. Not only did you hear the actual lyrics and the instruments, but on albums like "The Wall" and "Dark Side of the Moon", there were underlying layers, mostly speech. "I've been mad for f***ing years!" "He's cruisin' for a bruisin'!" "Is it safe to travel at night?" I immediately put on Pink Floyd. I was familiar with what was said in the background, but this headset made it two or three times clearer than ever before. All I could do was sit there with my jaw on the floor. I personally do have a larger head and maybe a little sensitive ears but these headphones are perfect for that! Other headphones would make my ears feel too hot or end up having some discomfort but with these headphones I can listen or play games for hours on end. Hardware is amazing, nothing feels cheap and they are a little bit large but as long as you wear them on your own you’re good to go. They feel super light and durable plus the microphone is retractable so it makes it easy to keep them in good condition. Software is not the best I’ll admit, I’m semi tech savvy and it took me a little bit of investigating to be able to properly use the spatial audio on my PC so I can’t imaging the challenge for new buyers who aren’t as knowledgeable with these settings. I recommend looking up a video with a step by step basis for these because they will take you quite some time to set that up. Also you need to end up removing one of the headphones foam part just to be able to upload your device for the spatial audio so make sure to read the instructions and be careful! They don’t seem to be easily destroyed but you never want to take any chances and make sure to place them back in the super slim groove they were previously in. Spatial audio is par level I’d say. It wasn’t anything out of this world but definitely noticeable and It’s helped me throughout a few games when used correctly. I enjoy using it often though plus the little controller is able to be placed via a sticky surface on the bottom at a set location so that makes it easy to raise/lower the volume and mute myself with a click of a button. The microphone is one of the best sounding out there, I have had multiple headphones and my friends have all told me the audio quality on these are the best by far. It feels great to have such a significant improvement and not have to pester others with a bad quality microphone. Wait for the deal for these as they frequently go 20ish bucks cheaper! Any young gamer would enjoy these but so would those who are avid gamers later on in life! These are a bit older but definitely quality for the price. Highly recommend to anyone looking all over for headphones as I have. Oh and noise cancellation wasn’t super cancelling but honestly it felt like it blocked the perfect amount. TLDR: I wear glasses and headsets dig into my head causing me pain and leaving marks into my skull from pressing my glasses into my head etc. These have not (at least not yet).. and I am so excited. They feel roomy and nice, I was wearing them when I didn't even need to cause I just don't mind them all day long. (SO NICE!) I had to write this, I only had them like 2 days now. Wore them all day today and I cannot believe I'm not in pain like I have been from my hyper x cloud 2. My other headset broke. The mic just doesn't work. So I needed a new one. I didn't put much thought into this, It was a good price and kind of impulse bought it after making sure it was in fact a USB connection because I can't deal with finding the right port for the circle ones/jacks. (I am very tired). I wear glasses, my headsets tend to dig and cause pain into my head. These are not... very roomy feeling. My only gripe as my other headset mic could come out. I could move the headset any way and put the cord on either side of me. These I have to wear them one way only. But that's not a big deal tbh. I like the cord to dangle on my RIGHT side. But it is on the left and has to cross over me. But whatever. I can work on solving that some other time. I totally didn't realize the RGB colors changing on the sides, pretty neat. Mic and sound are nice. People are not complaining about not hearing me etc. Very nice. I've had issues with discord in the past but no issues atm. (Not sure if it was headset related at all). I may want to get a stand for them or something just because. Very happy with my purchase so far! (Also thanks to the company for shipping it so fast! ) Update: I reviewed this Feb 10-22. Updating now jul 28-22. This review is getting notice so I figured I might as well update. I'm able to wear this with my glasses for long periods, I game daily with friends talking etc. I find them to be quite comfortable. As far as discord goes, I only got the error of my friends not being able to hear me a couple of times. What resolved that was just closing and restarting the app. Restarting computer. Things like that. I think it's discords issue tbh. Anyways. I found also as I wear glasses, that my glasses weren't fitting me that great, and I needed a wider frame so it didn't cut into my head as much, that also helped with head discomfort. It also stood up to my cats chewing at the mic end. I'm so glad they I can retract it during storage. Edit:9-30-22. I got another notice for this. So here's some more. I got really busy with life etc so I haven't been gaming or using this much. But when I did use it for the weekend all day they were great! But I noticed when taking them off my ears enjoyed the break. Lol like I'm not used to having stuff around my ears anymore. But still really like these. And no issues with them. They work great. Using discord, people can hear me. My cats love to gnaw on the mic still. I'm really glad I can retract the mic and then I flip the headset over -so Mic faces downward(didn't buy stand, just put them on my PC tower). If I leave it up they with try to sell gnaw at it. Or My cat loves to then gnaw the cord for my attention. I usually stop to give attention so they aren't doing it to long per attention seeking session overall. Cord is going strong, no frays yet. Son excelentes en todo sentido y facilmente valen el doble de lo que me costaron. - PRECIO 11/10 No se como están tan baratos, si los ves en menos de $1,500 valen cada centavo. - Comodidad 9/10 muy cómodos, los puedo tener puestos por mucho tiempo ya sea trabajando o jugando. es MUY conveniente que el micrófono sea rertactil y se pueda prender/apagar presionando la punta del mic. los pads son muy suaves y tienen un gel con tela muy cómodo y duradero que no hace sudar, sin embargo en un clima calido si dan algo de calor. - Materiales 10/10 Todos los materiales son muy buenos y se sienten duraderos. el marco completo es de metal. - Sonido 10/10 Suenan muy bien por este precio. sonido claro y preciso. No soy fan del THX en contenido no nativo, pero se prende/apaga con un solo botón. NOTA: El THX no requiere activación, viene incluido en el hardware de los audifonos, solo presiona el botón. y para customizarlo usa la app de razer. -Estética 10/10 los LEDs se pueden apagar desde el software de Razer y/o configurarlo a tu antojo, sobre todo si tienes mas perifericos de Razer. Los Tournament an sido unos de los mejores audífonos que e usado en mi vida. El sonido es magnífico (si usas el output GAME y no el CHAT; ese apesta) y la calidad de audio es maravillosa. Después de usarlos por años y años siguen siendo mis favoritos y siempre lo serán. PERO cuidado con las almohadillas, después de sus años de uso empezaron a "sangrar" una substancia pegajosa que me a sido imposible de lavar y además las dejan grasosas también. Respecto al software; debes usar Synapse 3 para usar este headset de forma óptima, pero Razer nunca a sido bueno en su área de software por lo que el driver; si funciona, no lo actualices, y si te pide actualizar, revisa reseñas de esa versión. O te pasará como a mi que perdí el THX por un mes gracias a una actualización fallida. Read more
