I have had a number of "anatomical mishaps" over the years, mostly involving my neck, but was really surprised when I woke up one morning in January with a stiff neck after making room in bed the night before for my typically less-than-cuddly rescue cat. I was in some serious pain. I gave in after a month of no relief with gentle stretching and went to a chiropractor--2, actually--for the next 2 months. Fast forward to April, and while the chiropractic did help, along with daily stretching and massage, I'm on a budget and so started looking at neck massagers vs. a weekly chiro visit. I chose three: One a small handheld that simply vibrates, a shiatsu neck massager unit, and this SKG Neck Massager. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this very lightweight SKG massager. When it arrived, I charged it, wet my neck as the instructions detailed and turned it on. It definitely is stimulating muscles, and in 3 days, my neck has felt a bit better. I expect that this will only improve the more I use the unit, which is twice a day. It automatically shuts off after 15 minutes. It also provides heat if desired. I found the instruction booklet a bit, well, scary, in that there are all kinds of warnings about the possibility of electrical shock if using it incorrectly. I had a few questions about that, namely, could I use it while at my computer? could I use it while sipping a beverage? and also asked about which intensity level was recommended to effectively manage pain. Customer service got back to me within just a few hours, a day at most on a weekend, and completely answered my questions. So, yes, you can use the device while at the computer or other electronic device, and yes, you can sip a beverage without getting electrocuted in the process :) They also let me know that the intensity level is a gauged by your comfort, and I can at this point only really handle a 2 or 3 level out of the 15 available, but again, it does seem to alleviate my neck pain somewhat. I'm hopeful that between the massager and maybe a monthly or every-other-month chiro visit, my neck pain will be greatly reduced very soon. I do feel that the item listing could be more specific as to the fact that it is really more of a TENS unit than a massager. It does, however, provide varying impulses that alternate between vibrating and percussive sensations. One other tip: I went to use it last night and it wasn't working--it took me a while to realize that I'd forgotten to moisten the back of my neck first. I just use a washcloth, no need to have a lot of water on your neck, just a wipe with the wettened corner of a washcloth, making sure the part of your neck is well moistened that is in contact with the two metal pads on the back of the massager. If you don't do that, you will feel nothing, and you might think the massager is defective, like I did for a few minutes there! I would recommend this massager for its ease of use in being lightweight with easy-to-use buttons on both the device and remote. I think it would be most useful in conjunction with other modalities, such as stretch, ice/heat, manual massage and/or massage with another device, pain relievers, etc. And the cat now finds a spot to sleep around me vs. my making room for her! in addition to my previous review, I can honestly say I agree with pretty much all of the 1 & 2 star reviews. I have received 2 units that I believe are used and The first one didnt work at all. After using the replacement fir a couple weeks, It only works for about 8 minuted on a fully charged battery. It is difficult to get it started and to tell what level you have it on. is not really a neck massanger, is more an electrostimulator. at first the sensation is a bit weird but after few minutes you'll start to love it, the battery is very good, you can take more than 10 massages before to charge the battery again. I put 4 stars just because I didn't like so much the sound that emits when you change the settings, and the remote should stay incorporate into the massanger like this you don't have to buy another battery for the remote. After a long day working or studying, this neck massager is the best way to loosen up those muscles. This is different from the other massagers because it uses small electric volts. Before use you need to wet your neck a little and Put the massager on, you can change the intensity as well as there is an uptown for heating. If this is the first time you use a massager like this, it may feel odd at the beginning but it will feel better later on.
