I was expecting a half hour. I started to have ice cream in only 10 minutes. It is noisy but not annoyingly so. Much like the old ice cream makers from the 70s and 80s. I churned to soft serve ice cream texture so I was way under the estimated 30 minutes for ice cream. If you desire a firmer ice cream when you reach that 30 minute point, simply ripen in the freezer for a bit. It was how we firmed it up back in the 60s. Made a very nice amount for a single person. The mix in the booklet will make 3 servings so you need a storage container for liquids when you mix it up unless you plan on making all three that day. Note the machine will ONLY handle single servings. To get the correct amount and not have lid lifting problems, use the dry measure for a cup [the multiple size cups attached to each other is a dry measure] not the liquid measure [the cup with multiple measures on the side]. Put enough mix in the dry measure that you can walk and NOT spill it. That will prevent the lid from lifting. I haven't tried the other recipes in there yet but I will be doing so. The recipe in the booklet is for an iced cream not an iced milk [the more cream the more rich]. It's very smooth and rich. You should notice a butter feel on the lips after eating. It is not the very best ice cream out there but it's a good recipe and will be improved by a very good quality vanilla so save bargain bin vanillas for baking or other recipes where vanilla isn't the main flavor. I didn't have a whisk and used a spoon. It mixed up just fine with no graininess. Other recipes can also be used and I plan on experimenting. Note: the mix in the book is an iced cream not the iced milk that so many of us are use to. The more cream, the richer the product. There will be a buttery feel to the lips and mouth after eating it. Cleaning was an absolute snap. I used a spray on detergent, wiped, rinsed and clean. The hard part is waiting for the cup to chill again. This would work well for kids. Each has his or her own, they can then put the extract they want into a base and mix up their own flavor [no fuss about which ice cream to buy at the store]. Excellent for portion control. You aren't going back for that second dish... well... heck... maybe a third... That 24 hours chill time puts paid to that. It does what it was designed for and does it well. Read more

The key to enjoying this item is to have realistic expectations. It’s not going to preform in the same way as a much more expensive machine. That being said, I’ve had a really great experience so far. There is a pretty steep learning curve and my first few attempts were not so successful. Here are some things that I’ve learned that have attributed to my success: 1. It is small. Like two scoops small. Don’t overfill it or you’re going to have a bad time. If you have two kids you might think about buying two of these. (It also needs a full 24 hours of freezer time between uses.) 2. Make sure to have everything ready to go. It will immediately start freezing around the edges once liquid is added. 3. Don’t make the mixture too thick. Liquid consistency is better. 5. Have enough fat in your recipe. Less fat means more ice crystals and less creamy texture. 6. The lid doesn’t exactly lock in place. It does have some grooves that it will click into. After you set the lid on turn the lid and you can feel it click into place. 7. You’re not going to get rock hard ice cream like at the store. It’s more along the lines of soft serve. If you wanted a more ice cream like consistency you’d need to freeze it after churning. If that’s what you want just buy the big ice cream machine. I have only used this for frozen yogurt but it works really well. I out about a cup of plain Greek yogurt 5% fat) in a bowl and add some almond milk and a splash of half and half. Then I add whatever flavoring or fruit that I want and stir it all up. I get the best results when it is liquid or near liquid in consistency. I’ve found it’s a good way to get extra protein while still satisfying the ice cream cravings. It’s easy to clean. The paddle detaches from the motor. It comes with a plastic spoon. Be aware, this is small. It will hold 1cup(250ml) of ingredients at a time. It requires a full freezer cycle between uses. For me it's perfect! For a family, I suspect youll need something larger, or one of these for each person. I made a vanilla with coffee ice cream first. I've been really playing with ingredients because I don't drink traditional milk/cream. I'm still working out some texture stuff. I used a coconut milk (made from grace brand powdered coconut milk) since this is largely 'water' based it had a consistency more like a slushy, but the flavour was spot on! I did a serving with (sliced room temp) banana, and some frozen mixed berries*for some fun I added 1 oz Matteo coffee syrup (sugar free salted caramel) it came out like a store bought pint of sorbet. I love how this product gives the user complete control over the ingredients, it's a must have for anyone(or any family) who has dietary restrictions, or just wants to reduce additives, preservatives, or added sugars. Next I'm going to try it with a non dairy yogurt, with protein powder, frozen fruit, and granola on top for a fun summer time breakfast or bedtime snack! Read more
