I have switched out most of my vitamins/supplements to the Thorne brand as I feel they are a better quality product. They are more expensive than some store-bought supplements but in my opinion worth it. It is often hard for me to tell if something is "working" or doing its job when it is a supplement. However, I have been able to tell the difference with the Thorne L-Carnitine. I purchased this product because I read that L-carnitine can help turn fat into energy and possibly suppress appetite. It is the latter that had me intrigued. I am a snacker, not because I'm hungry but because I just want to snack and I crave salt or sugar. I started eating moderately healthy and the first week I found myself grabbing the chips at the end of the day, or sneaking a piece of candy after lunch. Still better than I had been eating before but wanted to quit the no need snacking. I purchased the Thorne L-carnitine and noticed after the first week I wasn't really snacking anymore. By the second week, I was convinced it was the L-carnitine doing its job. Because if I forgot to take it I did feel an urge to snack. I take it as recommended which is one pill 3x a day. Once in the morning, once a little before lunch, and once a little before dinner or right after dinner. I can't say whether it is turning fat into energy (there is no way for me to know that) but I can say I believe that it is helping me not snack or crave treats. For the past two weeks, I have eaten very well, and have rarely snacked. I also found that if I took it too far before a meal I wasn't hungry for the meal. So to be sure to still eat as needed, I take it right before I eat so that by the time I'm done eating I am satisfied and have no desire to snack.
