I didn't think it was possible to be in love with mechanical pencil lead, but here I am. I'm a student, not an artist or anything like that, so I never paid attention to the "hardness" rating when buying lead (I didn't even know that was a thing). Man, I had no idea what I was missing out on. This lead writes like a dream! It makes writing feel so much more satisfying and fun. My pencil glides across the paper smooth as butter and leaves nice dark, bold lines with this lead. No scratchiness whatsoever. The only potential downsides I've noticed are that the softer leads get used up a little more quickly and are slightly easier to smudge. I haven't had any issues with smudging at all, even with the 4B, but if you're left handed that could be a problem. I don't know why they don't sell this stuff at university bookstores—they'd make a killing if they did. I don't think I can ever go back to "normal" lead.
