I have used these outdoors when I needed the finger flexibility of gloves but it wasn’t cold enough to need heavy gloves or when it was cold but the heavy gloves didn’t allow me enough use of my fingers. They are warmer than I expected, but do not count on being able to control your phone much even with the special pad on the tip of the index fingers. Because I have a variety of other gloves and mittens, some for very cold weather, I haven’t tried these under mittens or other gloves, but they fit snugly enough that they definitely could be worn as an extra layer of warmth if needed under gloves or mittens that aren’t quite warm enough or where you need an extra layer over these to warm your hands up between doing something where you need finger dexterity.
