Having followed the manga and anime of the series from when it was originally released and The recent revisioned Arc series, I was anxious for this title to be released. The game play follows the traditional Dynasty Warriors style of hack, slash, and explore. The boards are very detailed and interactive with lots of polish. There is a lot of redundancy to the objectives you will be prompted to complete, i.e. Go defeat this commander, go rescue this teammate, destroy this feature... you get the idea. Despite the repetitive themes, character designs and enemies are well represented and very similar to their traditional role from the source material. There is an attempt to add a layer of optimization to your character through a series of equippable items. It is a simple system of enhancement utilizing materials collected from the battlefield. It isn't anything revolutionary but it adds another layer to the game and serves to boost some character stats. There is an impressive line up of playable characters. It allows fans of some of the story's most developed characters to hack and slash through the story as their favorite members of the Band of the Hawk. Three game modes help keep things interesting. When one mode of plays becomes dull you can find relief through a series of different challenges. My biggest complaint about the game, and I know this sounds trivial, is the lack of ability to "jump." The fact that you are restricted to the ground makes the combat less progressive and more redundant. The Amazon title lacks the DLC that was supposed to be released with the game. It can be purchased through the PSN at a later time. Consider that when paying the prime member discounted rate as opposed to the retail price. You'll end up paying roughly same if you want the additional DLC. In summary, die hard fans o the series will like reliving the story as they brutally slash their way through the game. Roughly 2 hours of animated cut scenes accompany the game play to really pull you into the franchise. The game doesn't seek to redefine the genre and that's fine. It offers a fun experience soaked with plenty of blood and flashy moves and cutscenes to entertain fans and newbies alike. the battles and. Button mashing gets a little redundant, but fighting your way through 100's of foes keeps the adrenaline high.
