I'm not a smoker but I have always envied those who light their cigarettes with a Zippo and I've always wanted one but never had a reason to buy... At long last however, my love of camping and hiking has provided sufficient justification for this purchase! Being a Zippo, there were literally hundreds of designs to choose from but in the end I opted for the Yggdrasil(ish) version because that appeals to me. Out of the box, this is a nice lighter! It has a reassuring well-made feel and heft and the lid flips open with that click that reminds me so much of my dad's lighter eons ago! The lid is not loose and sits nice and flush with the body of the lighter. The etching of the 'Tree of Life' is clear and nicely done and I like the brass antique finish. So far, the antique finish has held-up well but I use the lighter only occasionally which probably helps. The lighter ships dry, but that makes sense so no worries there. A doddle to fill (with the correct fluid) wait a minute or two and you're good to go. In use, the lighter lights reliably and usually on the first flick of the wheel. It's more or less wind-proof and I have used it on a few camping trips now with great satisfaction! One downside is that the lighter dries out between my trips (i reality over the course of about 3 weeks) but this should not be a problem for a regular user who will be topping-up more frequently. In short - I love this lighter! I think it looks cool, is well made and as a bonus, it makes me feel like a 'proper' woodsman (which I most definitely am not)! I think it will last forever; or until I lose it, whichever is the sooner... Very highly recommended (as a Zippo) but there are many other designs are available! Read more

Un altro pianeta rispetto agli Zippo entry level. Se poi osassimo paragonarlo agli Zippo di nuova generazione, per intenderci, quelli con placca decorata applicata sulla cassa liscia e spoglia (anzi, incollata alla bene e meglio, se vogliamo dirla tutta)... beh, ci ritroveremmo catapultati addirittura in un' altra dimensione. Tutt'altra consistenza, peso e, soprattutto, tutt'altra resa estetica ed esperienza tattile: la cassa Armor è notevolmente più spessa e le decorazioni, su tutti e 4 i lati, sono incise in profondità e realizzate in maniera magistrale, niente a che vedere con le classiche, superficiali incisioni al laser e il loro feeling decisamente cheap. Non ho trovato info dettagliate sul materiale utilizzato per la cassa (non è certo argento Sterling) e così, ad occhio, propenderei per una lega argento + ottone: il risultato visivo è decisamente convincente e del tutto simile all'argento con svariati decenni sulle spalle. Uso accendini Zippo da una quindicina d'anni e, in questo lasso di tempo, ho potuto constatare (insieme a tanti altri aficionados del brand) un lento ma costante crollo della qualità di questi magnifici accendini ma, con questo Tree of Life, Zippo mi ha riconquistato alla grande. Certo, per avere ancora uno Zippo di qualità bisogna salire di prezzo in maniera consistente rispetto agli entry level e ciò lascia un pò di amaro in bocca ma, almeno in questo caso, sono soldi ben spesi e giustificati fino all'ultimo centesimo. This brass lighter looks and feels great, fhe engraving is high quality and the patina hides scratches from daily use well. It's easy to refill with lighter fluid, and seems to retain fuel for a few weeks. Lights well, even in wind and is easy to use. Gets warm very quickly and can be uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time. The brass looks nice and it's a reliable little lighter, but at full price it's on the expensive side. Read more
