Had this now for 6 months and given myself about 4 or 5 haircuts with it. It works great for me, I even use the little mirror that most complain about. The instructions are very clear and the main clipper, trimmer and little trimmer all work well. I do cut my hair fairly short, I use the #3,4 and 5 combs and finally I don't have to leave a barber shop looking like I was prepped for brain surgery. The main clipper does buzz but nothing crazy loud or crazy vibration, at least not to me and certainly about the same or less as the ones hair stylists used to use.It has already paid for itself and I no longer have crazy out of control hair like I used too..lol.. as I would always wait too long to get it cut before. I cut my hair myself and have gotten better with each succeeding haircut. As soon as it starts to feel a little long I whip out all the stuff I need and trim it all up. I would just keep in mind that this is not top of the line as Wahl and others make other and more expensive professional clippers, But this to me works very well and cuts nicely and is more than adequate for my needs, which are pretty simple haircuts. Very nice package of items. Very complete. The plastic housings on the trimmers isn't very sturdy, it will get broken with use, I remember my dad had a Wahl trimmer (mom still has the trimmer in a cabinet and it still works) 40 years ago and the plastic it is made from is quality stuff. This is like a childs cheap toy in quality of plastic. That said... it works great, as well as my dads old one ever did, just wished the plastic was quality. I did my own hair cut with it in 30 minutes from 10 inches of hair down to a nice military style with little difficulty. THe guides work like a charm. Started with a 7 to see what happened, went to a 4 sort of in between and ended with a 2, which is what I wanted. The tapered ear trimmer guides are great and work well. Had to do a little scissor trim around the ears to finish up. Used the eye brow trimmer and it was nice and easy. I will never pay for another haircut as long as I live, providing this doesn't burn out or crack apart. Pros: Guides are heavy and do not flex when used, yet are not painfull to use tapered ear trimmers fantastic eye brow attachment excellent flexible mini trimmer with rotating head middle sized trimmer great for neck and side burns cons: The plastic housing on the trimmers is very cheap the battery holder on the micro trimmer is difficult to align batteries into the velcro that is on the cape has a glue that never dries, it is all sticky and oily and is best to just throw out. I've never cut my own hair before so needless to say, I was concerned about how it would come out. I used this kit the other day for the first time and I was very pleased with the results. My haircut came out balanced, very decent actually, although a bit short and it took some time because I was unfamiliar with the process. Yet it looks as good as the cuts I've been getting at Great Clips; the hairs are cut cleanly, not having jagged ends. I'm sure with practice I'll get a lot better, so along with saving money and time on cuts, I'll be able to get (and more importantly maintain) the look I want. Highlights: This product is an EXCELLENT value at $40. The clipper is powerful yet amazingly quiet, a lot quieter than the clipper I'm used to when I frequented professionals. The thumb-adjustable taper control on the clipper is a big plus. The 2 AA trimmer works great and is more powerful than my Norelco beard trimmer which I've been using that uses 3 AA's. The personal trimmer works great and you shouldn't be afraid to use it in delicate areas because it does indeed cut, not pull, and it is indeed safe. You can change heads on the trimmer easily, and the fact that it uses only 1 AA battery is a plus as well. I recommend getting the 1.25" and 1.5" guide combs along with this kit. Sold separately. Hair Cutting Tip (for do it yourself guys): For a finishing touch, place a long piece of thin masking tape on the back of your hair, at the bottom where you want to **square off** your hairline. Use mirrors to help with the positioning, making sure the tape is perfectly horizontal. Then using the trimmer you can go right up to the tape while trimming away the unwanted hair. This will remove all your neck hair and will square off your hairline without even having to use any mirrors at this point. The clippers work great and to get actual chrome the kit would cost a LOT more. - The product description DOES tell you that you get guide combs up to 1". Somebody didn't read that obviously. - OK, the scissors are not great. That's not a good enough reason to downgrade the review to 4 stars. - Somebody mentioned that they would like rechargeable batteries and awarded a 4 star review because of that. LOL I guess they never heard of rechargeable AA batteries. - The cape works just fine and if the velcro detaches there's a simple fix: Crazy glue - So what if the bottle of oil included is small? Any regular all purpose tool oil will work just fine, there's nothing special about the oil. - Somebody complained that they couldn't register the kit online. That's funny, I had NO PROBLEM registering the kit, Product #79524-3001 which will register the clipper, trimmer, and personal trimmer all at once. - Somebody wanted videos. My haircuts are actually *better* and more *consistent* than what I was paying $15 for at Great Clips. I would tell them "rounded and full up top, short and tapering on the sides". What I usually got was an uneven top which wasn't blended well with the sides. Now I can do that myself with this kit and I can do the entire cut in less than 40 minutes (total time including cleanup). Bottom line: Using this kit is just like combing your hair. That's the only skill. The trick is to know *how* to do this effectively. Just take notes and refer/update them with every cut. Once you get the hang of this you'll be amazed at how well your cuts turn out. I love the clippers and all of the accessories that it comes with. The motor is powerful and the cut is crisp. One thing that should not be ignored is that you won't need to worry about a battery going dead or losing power as you cut as this is powered by wire. As such, you definitely notice that the motor that drives the unit is more substantial (heavier) than motors of the battery operated versions. Having said all of this, there is one thing, however, I would change: the storage pouch. When you open the pouch, the blade guards end up spilling out all over the place. The pouch is rather flimsy and the internal pouches do not have enough Velcro to hold the guards in-place.
